Here’s the scoop - Summary

The Cost Accounting Analyst (contract) primary role is to work directly with the Operations Controller on reconciling the ingredient and packaging inventories and overview the completion of all Kitchen production. This role plays an integral part in the Operations Finance department. Responsibilities include keeping the Operations Controller apprised on any issues that need to be addressed as it relates to inventory and manufacturing. This role is also responsible for updating KPI’s, reporting on variances to budget yields, inventory discrepancies and providing recommendations for improved financial & production efficiencies.

The Cost Accounting Analyst works out of our Acheson operations facility office and reports to the Operations Controller.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Lead, coach and motivate the Operation Finance team.

  • Maintain, analyze, and deliver actionable insights on weekly KPI’s.

  • Overview and present the daily yields to operation and provide analysis on variances.

  • Ensure transactions are properly administered and serve as a key resource in the standard costing of inventories (NCR costing, inventory adjustment, etc.).

  • Actively involved in Month end close, reporting and cost reconciliation.

  • Verify and sign Manufacturing Package for accuracy and deviation.

  • Collaborate with operation on the different type of rework with focus on reduction.

  • Trouble shoot system and inventory issues to ensure smooth flow of production.

  • Active involvement in the Yield Improvement Team.

  • Manage Stat Canada reporting.

  • Maintain and present data on sustainability and carbon footprint metrics.

  • Work with development team on process automation projects, test Finance system improvements or new functionality, enhance interface reporting.

  • Overview the downtime reporting for the facility and report on drivers.

  • Participate in year end physical counts of ingredients and packaging onsite and offsite at 3rd party locations.

  • Actively Participate in continuous improvement opportunities and initiative.

  • Manage Ad hoc reports and perform other duties as necessary.

  • Ensure the strict confidentiality and privacy of the Company’s financial records.

  • Assist Operation Controller with year end budget and audit.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) or Finance/Accounting or equivalent

  • Advanced Excel skills

  • Lean Manufacturing background an asset

  • Experience with an ERP (Enterprise Resources Planning) system.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Working Conditions

  • Work location is at our New NorthStar Kitchen in Acheson, Alberta.

  • Work environment is in a pet food production office environment, with possible exposure to some dust and odors.

  • Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

  • Overtime as necessary.

  • Paperwork will have originated from the Production department, and as a result may be dirty and odorous.
