About the Position

Global Engineering (GE) at Goodyear has the responsibility to invent, design, and deliver process technologies and equipment to make Goodyear's Business Strategies achievable across the entire corporation. This department engineers and integrates both proven and new technologies to support new products, increase manufacturing capability, improve existing infrastructure, and execute global capital projects.

This individual will work with other engineers of all disciplines, as well as engineering contractors, plant associates and equipment suppliers. The individual will also work closely with Global Facilities Planning, Regional Quality, Plant Engineering, and related teams to define and meet project objectives. This engineer will support manufacturing plants and other facilities as a designated Facilities Engineering expert.

Responsibilities

  • Capital Projects: Design and specification of equipment and utility systems, all in support of facility improvements, renovations, expansions, or new construction. Be involved in all phases of each project, including the planning & scope development, conceptual design, management of external design firms, cost estimates, execution strategy, construction planning & support, system commissioning and troubleshooting, documentation, and project management of all mechanical Facilities work.

  • Technical Support: Provide engineering expertise for all Goodyear sites and across multiple functions, including Manufacturing, Logistics, Chemical, Airships, and Corporate Headquarters. Topic areas include process piping, plumbing, ventilation systems (HVAC), fire protection, and related equipment and technologies.

  • Innovation: Investigate new technology and develop corporate standards around building design & utilities. Support initiatives related to Sustainability, Energy, Reliability, Loss Prevention, Safety, and Business Continuity.

  • Standards: Create, implement, and maintain Global standards.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, or other STEM degree.

  • Minimum 5 plus years’ experience required.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is desired.

  • Experience in consulting, industry, or heavy construction.

  • Understanding of safe work practices for construction & manufacturing environments.

  • Understanding of environmental concerns and requirements.

  • Able to read drawings, P&IDs, flow diagrams, and schematics for process piping, HVAC, and sprinkler systems.

  • Preferred experience with industrial mechanical design (process piping, HVAC, fire protection), including layouts, sizing calculations, studies, and equipment specifications.

  • Able to use AutoCAD, Revit, or other similar 3D design software.

  • Technical familiarity with the following systems is preferred:

  • Industrial process piping, pumps, valves, and instrumentation for: water, gas, hydraulics, pneumatics, steam, compressed air, and lubrication,

  • Fire protection piping, methods, codes, and systems,

  • Process ventilation and cooling, including humidity-controlled systems & general building HVAC.

  • Familiarity with industry specifications and standards for the above types of systems, including relevant codes (ASME, API, NFPA, FM, SMACNA, etc.).

  • Familiarity with best practices for equipment reliability.

  • Familiarity using Gantt charts and other scheduling charts and software.

  • Familiarity with mechanical equipment and utilities, including pumps, compressors, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, tanks, fans, and packaged air handling units.

  • Basic understanding of equipment installation and commissioning processes. Commissioning and troubleshooting experience are a plus.

  • Basic understanding of continuous improvement methods is a plus.

  • Able to identify and mitigate project and schedule risks.

  • Basic knowledge of estimating methods and tools.

  • Ability to manage multiple cross functional and cross disciplinary projects with moderate complexity.

  • Ability to function well in a team environment. Ability to interface cross-functionally with Goodyear and non-Goodyear associates globally from a variety of backgrounds.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including technical documentation.

  • Able to perform in a team environment, maintain a professional demeanor, and foster positive relationships with Goodyear and non-Goodyear associates from diverse, global backgrounds.

  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally, and work occasional off-hours is required. Travel may average as much as 20%, based upon project and schedule requirements.
