Southern Company Security Officer II- Plant Miller in AL, United States

LOCATION:

This position is located at Miller Steam Plant located in Quinton, AL.

JOB SUMMARY:

The successful candidate will provide shift leadership and on-the-job-training to entry level and mid-level Security Officers. The candidate will be expected to maintain order and safeguard employees, customers, and company property. In addition to the above, provide physical security and access control for the Corporate Headquarters, Generation Plants, General Services Complex, and other facilities, as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, undergraduate, or associate degree in criminal justice, business administration, or related field is preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with electronic security systems.

  • Ability to train others on electronic security equipment.

  • Two years in service with APC Corporate Security Uniform division preferred.

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local criminal laws.

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of APC and Corporate Security’s policies and guidelines.

  • Detailed knowledge of the company’s facility lay-outs.

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the company’s emergency response procedures; demonstrated proficiency in the use of these procedures.

  • Exhibit professional appearance, demeanor, and effectively interact with all employee levels.

  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, non-verbal, and listening) skills including observed leadership and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to effectively mentor and provide OJT to entry-level and mid-level Security Officers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patrol and inspect company property to protect against fire, theft, vandalism and other illegal activity.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle, or direct others to handle, interpersonal confrontations and hostile situations without instruction or supervision.

  • Respond or direct others to respond to calls for service.

  • Conduct preliminary investigations and write detailed incident reports, shift reports, etc.

  • Review written documents of others for completeness and accuracy.

  • Proficient scheduling skills (24/7 operation)

  • Proficiently operate electronic security equipment.

  • Effectively and efficiently perform assigned duties and responsibilities with minimum supervision.

  • Coordinate special projects, events, and initiatives.

  • Ability to use and maintain firearm; ability to qualify annually on firearms.

  • Enforce policies and procedures; conduct patrols of assigned areas or direct others to do so and provide leadership in the absence of the Security Team Leader/Shift Lieutenant.
