Albany Medical Center Clinical Instructor - Respiratory Therapy in Albany, New York

The Clinical Instructor for the Adult Care Service has the primary responsibility of facilitating the development and implementation of educational programs such as orientation/ competency assessment (both initial and ongoing) of both new and current RT staff, in-service, continuing and outreach education, and quality management / process improvement. These programs, although specifically designed to improve respiratory care services provided, can and will be made available to physicians, house staff, nursing, other student populations (Respiratory Care students, paramedic students, etc.) and community outreach. This individual will be the clinical liaison between Cardio-Respiratory Services and the Albany Medical College’s Departments of Surgery, Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, Cardiology/Cardiothoracic Surgery, and resuscitation. Furthermore, this individual will develop and coordinate quality improvement projects both inter- and intra-departmentally.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Licensed, Registered Respiratory Therapist – NYS Department of Education

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)

  • 5 years of experience in the setting of an academic medical center offering clinical practice in adult critical care and transport medicine.

  • Documented experience in electrocardiography and remote cardiac monitoring by telemetry

  • Experience in Pulmonary Function Testing

  • Active certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP (instructor status preferred)

  • Must demonstrate and support AMC Cares Policy, AMC Mission, Vision and Values

  • Computer skills- MUSE/EPIC /MS Office/Kronos

Education:

Must hold current NYS license to practice Respiratory Care in New York State; Registered Respiratory Therapist and possess the Adult Critical Care Specialist certification (ACC-S) (National Board for Respiratory Care). Bachelors prepared with degree in Cardio-Respiratory Sciences or similar. Masters preferred.

Experience:

Must have at least 5 years of full-time clinical practice in the practice of Adult Critical Care (Respiratory Care) in the setting of an academic medical center/referral center that includes trauma management, cardiothoracic surgery, and a robust general/vascular surgery program. Teaching experience and experience in electrocardiography and cardiac monitoring is highly recommended. AARC membership and ACLS certification are required. AHA Instructor status is preferred.
