Salary Range: Min. $31.28/hr - Max $51.61/hr
Starting salary and level will commensurate with experience
The radiation therapist will administer ionizing radiation and radioactive substances to patients under the supervision of a Radiation Oncologist and in accordance with New York State Department of Health Code part 16. guidelines. In addition, the radiation therapist must operate high voltage machinery safely and accurately and communicate to pertinent personnel when malfunctions occur. The radiation therapist will always concern themselves with the welfare of the patient and will conduct themselves in a responsible and professional manner. Satisfactory completion of a training program in a Radiation Therapy Technology program in an AMA approved school, meeting the requirements for registry by the ARRT, and being licensed as a Radiation Therapist by the State of New York Department of Health is required.
Assist patient in all aspects related to simulation and treatment and is responsible for their safety.
Observes at all times, rules and regulations relative to radiation safety for patients, staff, students and other personnel.
Responsible for recording and reporting equipment faults to chief therapist and/or physicist.
Accurately sets treatment doses and monitors the progress of treatment. Maintains adequate records/documentation as requested.
Carries out regular quality assurance checks, as required daily, weekly and/or monthly.
Assists the physician in any procedure related to simulation, planning or treatment as needed.
Inspects ancillary equipment on a regular basis, reporting and removing any unsafe equipment from use.
Rotates shifts or work assignments as requested by Lead Therapist or Department Manager.
Follows guidelines set in AMC Human Resources Manual. Performs associated duties as requested by Lead Therapist or Department Manager.
Maintains and develops interests in the field of Radiation Oncology.
Maintains required Continuing Education credits in compliance with license registration requirements.
