Alfred State College seeks a dynamic leader to fill a faculty role in our Department of Allied Health, with the possibility of also being a department chair. The Department of Allied Health is home to a diverse array of undergraduate programs including Health Information Technology (AAS), Radiologic Technology (AAS), Diagnostic Medical Sonography (AAS), Healthcare Management (BTech), and Imaging Science (BTech), as well as specialized certificates in MRI and CT.

 

This pivotal position offers a 10-month faculty appointment with a possibility to assume chair responsibilities. The faculty role's scope, including faculty rank and specific duties, will be based upon the successful candidate's expertise and experience. An innovative and team-minded faculty with insight into additional program development is desired. Faculty responsibility includes teaching, advising, clinical knowledge and support, course and/or program development, as well as being an active member of a growing department.

 

The role of Allied Health Department Chair is central to advancing the department's mission, with responsibilities year-round, driving the expansion of the programs, forging clinical partnerships, spearheading new program development, and upholding high standards of program accreditation. Responsibilities include recruiting and mentoring faculty, supervising and evaluating staff, allocating teaching duties, leading program assessments, managing budgets, and fostering a team centric departmental culture. In recognition of the administrative contributions related to the chair role, if selected as the chair, the candidate will receive a 50% reduction in teaching load, with opportunities to teach both in-person and online courses within their disciplinary expertise, plus a stipend for these responsibilities. Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, with work experience, licensure or certification in one of the programs within the department
  • Teaching experience (formal or informal) in the health field
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing disciplines within the department
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in a healthcare-related field
  • Teaching experience in one of the areas within the department
  • Experience with online teaching or learning, a plus
  • Higher education teaching or leadership experience, a plus
  • 3-5 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a healthcare or education setting
  • Significant leadership experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience with assessment and professional or program accreditation
  • Holds a professional or state license or certification in their Allied Health field
