ALLIANCE BOARD OF EDUCATION Teacher - Assistant Band Director/Music Teacher in Alliance, Ohio

Position: Instrumental Music Teacher/Assistant Band Director at AHS/AMS                             Percussion focused is preferred.

Employment Status: Regular/Full-Time 185 days per year                               This position does qualify for Health Benefits

Reports to: Building Principal

Description:

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. To teach according to the provided courses of study

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university

  2. Masters Degree in related area preferred.

  3. Appropriate State of Ohio certifications/license with a music endorsement, Major concentration in instrumental music.

  4. Prior teaching experience is preferable

  5. Strength in percussion is preferred, but not required.

  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.

  2. Skills that foster and facilitate learning and classroom management

  3. Educational pedagogy

  4. Possess knowledge of overall operation of an instrumental music program

  5. Ability to maintain budget and personnel, ensuring that the program is cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.

  6. Knowledge of policies governing a high school band program

  7. Meet and instruct assigned instrumental music classes in high school and middle school at the designated times

  8. Provide and attend performance opportunities throughout the community and beyond

  9. Manage large quantities of instruments and uniforms for various music ensembles. Maintain current inventory of fixed assets within the department, including cleaning, repairing and storing of band equipment

  10. Coordinate band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades and other activities. Arrange transportation, lodging and meals for out of town events. Accompany and supervise students on out of town trips.

  11. Support the Band Booster Club and activities

  12. Student/teacher relationship

  14. Knowledge of curriculum and concepts.

  15. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.

  16. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.

  17. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
