How does this role contribute to our collective success?

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Claims Portfolio Lead / Scrum Master to oversee a portfolio of claims initiatives while guiding Scrum teams through effective Agile delivery. This hybrid role demands a professional who can balance portfolio management with Scrum Master responsibilities, ensuring the alignment of claims projects with business objectives. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving the portfolio's success, optimizing delivery, and coaching teams to consistently improve in a fast-paced environment. This role will report to the PM Team Lead within the Enterprise Portfolio and Project Management division but will be responsible to the agile value stream team lead, ensuring alignment with our agile principles and goals.

What will you do in this role?

  • Oversee and manage the Claims portfolio of projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategic objectives.

  • Prioritize and manage the project pipeline, balancing resource allocation and meeting project deadlines.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define and refine project scope, objectives, and deliverables.

  • Monitor and report on portfolio health, risks, and issues, ensuring timely delivery of high-value claims solutions.

  • Facilitate daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, ensuring team adherence to the Scrum framework.

  • Coach and mentor Scrum teams on Agile principles and Scrum practices, fostering continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with Claims Product Owners to manage and prioritize the product backlog effectively.

  • Address cross-team dependencies and ensure smooth collaboration across multiple teams.

  • Utilize knowledge of Claims business processes to optimize solutions, improving claims handling efficiency.

  • Manage project governance, including steering committees, budgeting, and risk management.

  • Leverage technical expertise in Duck Creek or similar platforms to drive implementation and optimization of Claims systems.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that teams actively identify and implement process enhancements.

  • Advocate for Agile best practices within the organization and contribute to the growth of the Agile community.

About You:

What you need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent Agile certification.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Scrum Master, including at least 3 years in specialty insurance or financial services.

  • At least 5 years of experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance Claims.

  • Expertise in portfolio management practices, tools, and techniques.

  • Proven experience in scaling Agile practices across teams, using frameworks like SAFe or LeSS.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.

  • Experience in coaching and mentoring high-performing teams.

  • Proficiency in Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello, Azure DevOps).

  • In-depth understanding of Claims business processes and workflow optimization within the insurance industry.

  • Hands-on experience with Duck Creek’s Policy and Claims solutions or similar platforms.

  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills to engage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a continuous learning mindset, adapting to Agile maturity and market trends.

Role Factors:

In this role, you will typically be required to:

Embrace the hybrid culture offered at AXIS, you need to be in office 3 days per week.

Much of the work involves using computers for data entry, analysis, and communication. Comfort with prolonged screen time is necessary.

While much of the work may be desk-bound, there might be occasions requiring mobility within the office environment, such as attending meetings or accessing filing systems.

What we offer:

For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $165K to $215K for New York, $145K to $200K for Redbank and $135K to $170K for Alpharetta. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.

In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance. Where this role is based in the United States of America, this role is Exempt for FLSA purposes.
