Denali Universal Services Security Sergeant: Marathon Refinery in Anacortes, Washington

JOB SUMMARY *With limited supervision from the Security Administrator, the Security Sergeant is responsible for the day-to-day management of security personnel, equipment, and facilities. This position works a 4X10 schedule (4 days/week, 10 hours/day). * REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • Valid State of Washington Security Officer license or able to obtain
  • Valid driver's license
  • Will be required to certify as an Armed Security Officer in accordance with Washington State Laws
  • Minimum of three years of experience in law enforcement, military police, corrections, or private security company within the past five years. Military experience in an applicable specialty may be substituted for law enforcement experience.
    • Experience within the past five years may be waived based on performance testing indicating the applicant is capable of performing essential security functions.
  • Two years of prior management experience in positions of increasing responsibility that required sound decision making and incident/event management
  • Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) or able to obtain
  • Able to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Notify the Security Administrator in emergency situations, and liaison with clients, client administration, federal, state, and local agencies
  • Understand the administrative duties and responsibilities of the Security Administrator.
  • Ensure all required paperwork is completed by the end of the shift and turned in to the Security Administrator
  • Ensure that all assigned equipment, uniforms, and gear is properly worn and maintained
  • Ensure that all facilities and vehicles have been cleaned and any problems or malfunctions have been documented and passed on to the Security Administrator
  • Schedule personnel and coordinate adjustments of the workforce to meet immediate and projected manpower requirements in accordance with DUS policies and procedures
  • Supervise training of assigned personnel on the job, provide direct instruction to security officers, and ensure that client and DUS training program requirements are met
  • Maintain established standards of officer performance by personal example and commendation of superior performance, progressive discipline, and direct contact with personnel on a regular basis
  • Evaluate and make recommendations to officers regarding their reports, daily duties and procedures, and take corrective action as necessary to achieve optimum overall performance, in accordance with DUS personnel policies
  • Assure that all assigned personnel are personally prepared to perform their duties
  • Be available to provide back up support for personnel on duty and make management level decisions in emergencies as necessary
  • Identify and develop personnel for promotion
  • Assure that all personnel are treated fairly and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle during both the day and night in a variety of settings and varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner
  • Willingness to perform other duties as required
  • Willingness to work at various locations as required
