BAE Systems Painter - VUOC in Anniston, Alabama

Job Description

Ensures proper surface preparation and paints a wide variety of component parts, assemblies, hulls and

accessories according to specifications. May apply coatings other than paint.

  1. Prepares component parts and hulls for paint by ensuring proper level of cleanliness.

  2. Masks areas and plug holes that do not receive paint or other coatings.

  3. Mixes, thins, and blends paints, enamels, lacquers, and polyurethane coatings to proper color and consistency for application according to work instructions.

  4. Assembles and adjusts spray painting equipment to give proper pressures, mixture and spray, insuring that the application is of proper texture, thickness and surface finish.

  5. Sprays wash primer, primer, top coats of various paints, mostly epoxy and polyurethane CARC, as well as other coatings including polyurethane LINE-X coating.

  6. Cleans and maintains all equipment (including preventive maintenance), changes filters, and performs required housekeeping tasks.

  7. Follows all disposal procedures in an environmentally approved manner for waste by- products generated from all of the painting/coating processes.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  1. Work requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

  2. Must be able to successfully pass pre-hire training, work in a team-oriented environment.

  3. In order to reach the maximum wage rate through the progression table an employee must demonstrate ability to safely meet all the standards of the position including productivity.

  4. Must be capable of working in confined spaces wearing a full protective suit with external air supply, or protective suit with an approved respirator.

  5. Work requires ability to accurately measure, mix, and blend paints according to specifications.

  6. Work requires physical dexterity necessary to work in small areas (inside hulls), and in the pit beneath the hull in order to paint the bottom of the vehicles.

  7. Must be able to obtain a fork truck and overhead crane license after hire.

  8. Must be able to make good decisions while in the paint booth, without direct supervision.

Pay Information

This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which will determine your wages.
