Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Boiler Plant Worker in Anniston Army Depot, Alabama

Summary About the Position: This is a Boiler Plant Worker, WG-5402-08 position with the Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Anniston Army Depot Directorate of Public Works, Facility Engineer Division in Anniston, Alabama. Responsibilities Operate, adjust, and shutdown a high-pressure boiler to produce the required amount of steam to meet production needs and heating requirements. Make minor repairs to boiler equipment in order to maintain an adequate amount of steam pressure to keep up with production needs. Make on the spot decisions about steps needed to assure the safe operation of the plant. Collect samples, run test, and determine chemical content in water to make necessary adjustment in order to control corrosion and scale formation in the Distribution system. Analyze and interpret data in order to make repair or adjustment and determine work requirements. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Boiler Plant Worker without more than normal supervision. Performing routine preventive maintenance and minor operational repairs on Multi-fuel powered Boilers without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Operation of Boiler Plant Operator (specify equipment, machinery, etc.) Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Wok requires frequent standing, keeling, walking and climbing while checking equipment. There are occasions when repair work is performed in awkward and ramped positions. Repair work frequently requires carrying and setting up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Operator is subject to abnormal heat, hazards of boiler explosions, high noise level, dirt, carbon monoxide, scalds, and toxic fuel fumes and gases. He is subject to cuts and bruises while working around machinery and equipment. There is danger of falls from ladder while checking equipment. Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material classes. There is a possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rube boots, coveralls, googles, aprons, respirator, etc.). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. This position is a TERM Not to Exceed 13 months position. It is time limited and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
