Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic in Anniston Army Depot, Alabama

About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. Responsibilities Perform testing of internal combustion engines for final acceptance. Perform a full range of overhaul/repair work on heavy mobile equipment and vehicles powered by Turbine engines. Perform testing to correct deficiencies on a variety of combat vehicle components, and secondary items. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Disassemble, repair, and reassemble combat vehicles; disassemble engine and major assemblies; repair, rebuild, and modify parts and components to support engine rebuild; and repair, rebuild, and modify a variety of miscellaneous components and accessories for combat and tactical vehicles. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Troubleshooting Use of Measuring Instruments Physical efforts: Work involves standing, stooping and working in tiring positions. Constantly lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally is required to lift items in excess of 45 pounds. Working Conditions: The test consoles are located in rooms that are air conditioned, adequately lighted and ventilated. The test stands are located in room adjacent to office and become very warm due to heat of engines. This room is also adequately lighted and ventilated. Work is dirty and greasy and incumbent is subject to cuts and bruises from use of tools and equipment and working in close places. The work is performed in area where the noise is disagreeable, making it extremely difficult to talk and be able to hear and understand instructions. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable smoke and fumes from exhaust of engines. Is required to wear safety shoes and use ear protection. Education Substitution of education is not applicable for this position. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a(n) CP 17 Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
