Job Summary

The Senior Systems Administrator, IT for Campus Operations, provides high level technical support and application administration for the University’s enterprise applications that support the daily functions of the Mav ID Card Office. This office serves the campus community with ID card production and a comprehensive one-card solution to on-campus access control, meal plan, payment, and similar card based transactional services.

This individual will work to ensure reliable operation of the Mav ID Card infrastructure, applications, integrations and provide expert level support to the departments utilizing the various Mav ID Card applications

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide Administrator Level Expert Support for IT for Campus Ops.

  • Develops, tests, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain data interfaces between various student and employee campus data systems and card office to ensure proper communication and population of data.

  • Troubleshoot complex problems where the analysis requires knowledge of many diverse system components, such as network, firewalls, database, operating system, server hardware, and other software components.

  • Conducts server performance analyses and tuning.

  • Creates programs for automating system administration.

  • Helps analyze system logs and identify potential issues with computer systems.

  • Analyze and develop reports, data extracts and SQL scripts to support troubleshooting and data imports as well as general report writing.

  • Backup administrator for day-to-day operations of the access control system and ID system.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration or related field with demonstrated information technology experience and training.

  • Eight (8) years of demonstrated significant work experience in the field of information technology with a focus on IT/Systems Administration (not just user).

  • Working knowledge and experience of database systems (Oracle SQL preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field.

  • Experience in a higher education setting.

  • Experience with CBORD CSGold or other Campus ID card, meal plans, declining balance programs, and access control systems and related technologies.

  • Knowledge and experience of scripting languages (Python, Bash, Perl) to automate repetitive tasks and create custom tools.

  • Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by position available.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles of computing, communications, networks, hardware, software including operating systems.

  • Ability to install, configure, integrate, and manage software application in an enterprise environment.

  • Professional skill in analyzing and solving complex computing problems.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to motivate others.

  • Good understanding of business processes and related information management issues.

  • Ability to explain technical matters to non-technical people.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with little or no supervision.

  • Excellent organization, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication (verbal and written) skills.

  • Solution-focused mindset is an absolute must.

  • Ability to work well with people in all levels of the organization with skills to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.

Other Requirements

  • Will be required to obtain CJIS Certification.

Working Conditions

Specific job requirements or physical location of positions allocated to this classification render the position security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas Education Code.
