Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities Physical Therapy Assistant in Athens, Ohio

Job Duties:

  • Assists with planning and implementation of physical therapy treatment program for students of Beacon School. Provides direct care and follow-up documentation as required.  Communicates the effect of treatment and reports progress to the physical therapist on a regular basis, at least once per month. 
  • Provides patient, family, and other providers with education in accordance with patient's plan of care and specific needs. Instructs direct care providers regarding implementation of selected activities, use of adapted equipment, and handling techniques in various settings.
  • Participates in trans-disciplinary team approach.
  • Completes and maintains all records and documentation in accordance with ACBDD policy and requirements. Gather and review pertinent data from students' records. 
  • May assist in orientation of new staff. May assist in supervising practicum experience for students. 
  • Communicates with physicians, and other professionals on the IEP team as appropriate.
  • Provides training to staff in areas of expertise, such as lifting, etc.

Qualifications:                 

  • Graduate of an accredited two-year Physical Therapist Assistant program as recognized by the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers (OTPTAT) Board. Must be licensed by the Ohio OTPTAT Board. 
  • One year clinical experience strongly preferred.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds and perform the necessary job duties as determined by the PT Supervisor.
  • Must have knowledge of physical therapy techniques, principles, and practices. Knowledge of laws and rules governing the practice of physical therapy.  Knowledge of physical therapy equipment and safety practices. 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a diverse population.
  • Complies with all applicable laws and Board policies regarding confidentiality. Ability to work with DD students of different ages, intellectual and physical abilities.  Ability to effectively problem solve difficult situations.  Ability to learn new skills required for ACBDD setting. 
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and have own transportation. Must pass all required background checks.
