Position Summary

Work directly for South Jersey Gas with a focus on connecting new customers and promoting the installation of high efficiency natural gas heating equipment and appliances to the New Construction market. Responsible for initiating, building, and managing relationships with the builders and developers and associated trade and industry groups that serve the southern New Jersey region. As New Construction Relationship Manager, this individual will be responsible for forming and maintaining connections with business clients to drive growth in both the residential and commercial new construction market by connecting new customers accounts. Their duties include meeting with developers in-person to discuss new products or services, tracking and forecasting new business, resolving client issues with SJG’s new service installation process before, during and after installation. They will preserve relationships and communicate with the new construction team and with other departments within SJG to continually improve the client experiences. This individual will be responsible for achieving their own monthly and annual goals respective to their assigned territory/segment for new construction customer acquisitions.

Travel to visit construction sites and meet with builders and developers required.

Attending tradeshows and industry conferences and represent SJG may include air/train/bus/car travel.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage new construction business onboarding process from application to account activation, achieve or exceed new business targets and surpass expectations of customers.

  • Apply project management methodologies in a sales environment, proactive outbound calls, managing leads, qualifying leads, performing demonstrations, overcoming objectives, etc.

  • Work as a team with sales/relationship management team members to achieve department/company assigned goals.

  • Drive individual productivity and maintain an appropriate level of daily activities (customer calls, job processing and job tracking).

  • Drive individual sales and achieve assigned revenue, project, and customer relationship management goals.

  • Achieve own set sales target by promoting natural gas installations to new construction home and business owners, builders, and developers in assigned territory.

  • Develop relationships with builders and developers to facilitate the sales/customer onboarding process.

  • Develop internal relationships, communicate with key persons within SJG, maintain close contact with all trade allies and appropriate financial service companies, who may install, finance, or influence the decision to purchase energy efficient systems including natural gas consuming equipment in the existing markets.

  • Assure the maintenance and accuracy of sales data within the Salesforce CRM system and other electronic and manual systems.

  • Assess and recommend process improvements to assure optimum operation of the New Construction Sales Organization.

  • Develop relationships with the key residential/commercial developers building in Southern New Jersey. Involve South Jersey Gas executives and management in this process to strengthen the relationships between these organizations and their key decision makers.

  • Perform duties inherent in the role consistent with all positions in this classification, additional projects, tasks and/or duties beyond what is outlined here may be assigned as required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required background:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, construction, project management or related is preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing projects, construction, relationships, and processes.

  • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding goals.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication with highly developed negotiation, persuasive, presentation, and interpersonal skills at all levels.

  • Self-motivated, flexible, and open to change.

  • Process oriented.

  • Strong planning, organizing, reporting, and networking skills.

  • Highly driven with enthusiasm to meet high customer service and sales targets and to cope under pressure.

  • Trustworthy, professional, and reliable when dealing with confidential information.

  • Excellent computer and computer system utilization skills: MS Office Suite, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) technologies, Work Management Systems.

  • Experience with Customer Relations Ship Management (CRM) software like Salesforce.

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.

  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Background:

  • Experience is workflow management capacity.

  • Experience should include consultatively selling technical products. Highly desirable to have sold HVAC and related energy products.

  • Experience reading and interpreting construction site plans and building drawings.

  • Knowledge of the residential and/or commercial development construction process.

  • Knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems (high efficiency) and their design and installation. Understanding of fuel piping and flue venting.

  • Ability to communicate energy efficiency incentive program information.

  • Experience performing cost benefit analysis and presenting findings and recommendations.

  • Experience in cold calling.
