Johns Hopkins University Research Technologist in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking a Research Technologist. Under the general supervision of a faculty investigator, the Research Technologist will be responsible for performing routine experiments in a research laboratory and contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment and supplies. The individual will carry out experiments under the initial supervision until proficient in performing experiments independently. An ideal candidate will be motivated to learn new skills, including small animal (mouse) care, handling and procedures, cell culture experiments. They will perform lab procedures including mouse experiments, protein isolation and assay, qPCR, DNA and RNA extractions, sample processing and storage, data entry, presentations of results to other researchers, and some data analysis procedures.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Small animal (mouse) handling and procedures.

  • Maintain cell lines in tissue culture environment following established protocols.

  • Protein isolation and assay via Western Blotting.

  • Bacterial culture, Nucleic acid isolation.

  • Quantitative RT-PCR (qPCR).

  • Immunoblotting, Immunostaining.

  • Fluorescence microscopy.

  • Enzyme activity assay.

  • Reagent preparation.

  • Compile, analyze, and interpret research data using computer software applications.

  • Prepare summary of experimental protocols and relevant data to present/discuss with the faculty investigator.

  • Apply previous knowledge to troubleshoot experiment.

  • Keep a thorough and organized laboratory notebook to document experiments.

  • Maintain an orderly laboratory workspace.

  • Ensure laboratory efficiency by following set protocols for lab cleanliness, organization, and safety regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time.

  • Communication skills using the spoken word.

  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY ($41,200 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
