GOLF COURSE STARTER | MARSHALL (PART-TIME) SALARY: $12.77 | HOURLY *LOCATION: BAY MINETTE, ALABAMA *

The City of Bay Minette is accepting applications for the position of Golf Course Starter/Marshall with the City of Bay Minette Holly Hills Municipal Golf Course.

This is a seasonal/part-time position and the incumbent may be required to work during the week, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent will perform responsible customer relations and course rule/code of conduct enforcement work to ensure optimum use of the golf course and facilities. This work requires courtesy, independent judgement, tact, and diplomacy in order to maintain favorable golf course use and effective public relations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greets and welcomes guests to the course.
  • Operates the starters area to ensure optimum play and use of the course.
  • Advises guests of the course conditions, course rules, any special course conditions, and the expected pace of play.
  • Ensures the orderly flow of play in accordance with tee times and player arrival.
  • Pairs up players as needed.
  • Enforces policies, rules, and regulations related to the rules of golf, golf etiquette, and course rules and regulations.
  • Verifies equipment and items being taken onto the course to ensure compliance with club rules.
  • Prevents players from entering the course beyond the starting tee.
  • Rotates players as needed to ensure proper flow of play.
  • Inspects player registration receipt and green fee tickets for validity.
  • Monitors speed of play as groups make turns.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly appearance of the starters area, first tee, and other areas as assigned.
  • Advises and assists players to speed up or slow down in order to alleviate bottlenecks or play through, offers tips to slower paced golfers, searches for lost golf balls.
  • Assists slower groups/players and requests they speed up play, when appropriate.
  • Maintains and controls turn time.
  • Educates players on course etiquette and course rules.
  • Answers questions from players, provides information, and enforces rules in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Supplies guests with scorecards, pencils, or other items, as needed.
  • Assists clubhouse staff in checking in golfers, taking payments, and providing information.
  • Assists the public with tee times, cart rentals, and purchases of food or beverages.
  • Maintains records of areas of concern and issues encountered.
  • Fuels, cleans, and retrieves golf carts as needed.
  • Retrieves range balls as needed.
  • May be required to lift food items, cleaning supplies, range balls, or other items.
  • May assist in pressure washing sidewalks, buildings, or other areas.
  • Refers all major problems or complaints to a manager.
  • Follows established procedures for providing information and enforcing rules of play.
  • Maintains knowledge of emergency procedures, location of emergency equipment, and reporting procedures, and addresses emergency situations as appropriate, in a calm manner.
  • Reports any broken equipment or mechanical failure to Golf Course Manager or Golf Course Assistant Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires completion of high school diploma or GED.
  • Requires experience in golf to provide a knowledge of the rules and regulations of the game.
  • Experience working in customer service and as a Golf Course Starter preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver license from state of residence.
  • Must be drug and alcohol free.
  • Must be able to work efficiently and safely, without close supervision.
  • Must be in good physical condition and able to perform essential functions of position.
  • Must be dependable, alert, and enthusiastic.
  • Must have good work ethic, be respons ble, courteous, and possess good communication skills.
  • Must exhibit a positive, welcoming, and pleasant attitude conducive to working with the public and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include afternoons/evenings, weekends and holidays.

Rate of Pay: $12.77 per hour
