Amazon Software Development Manager, Product & Solutions Engineering in Berlin, Germany

AWS Products & Solutions Engineering builds software solutions that accelerate customer business outcomes on AWS - we are a part of the AWS Professional Services (ProServe) organization that works directly with AWS customers. Our mission is to bring Amazon’s industry-leading software engineering expertise to expand customer adoption of AWS, accelerating customer business outcomes. Our strategy is to build for reuse and scale whether the software is delivered to and used by customers or employed as part of ProServe delivery to customers. One of our key domain areas is Generative AI (GenAI) and we are looking for a Software Development Manger (SDM) to join the team and ensure we build and deliver GenAI solutions for AWS Customers.

As a Software Development Manager (SDM), you will lead your team of SDEs and collaborate with product, builders in the field, and specialists to develop, test, deploy, and own GenAI focused solutions. As the leader of the team, you will be responsible for setting the vision for the team and driving execution toward that vision. You will maintain a high operational bar; driving high availability and security of your product. You will hire and develop the best engineers. You will partner with product leaders to invent new ways to delight customers. A successful candidate will have a passion for innovation, interest in cutting-edge technology, and excitement about working in a high-impact domain.

We are looking for a Software Development Manager who is customer obsessed, and thrives in a fast-paced environment that requires strong technical and business judgment, solid communication and project management skills. You know how to help engineers navigate priorities and communicate clear expectations with customers. You should be knowledgeable about the architecture of distributed systems and software development life cycle.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature and breadth of the areas of interest, the ideal candidate will coordinate across many internal and external teams, and provide visibility to the senior leaders of the company with their strong written and oral communication skills. We need individuals with demonstrated ability to learn quickly, think big, execute both strategically and tactically, and motivate and mentor their team to deliver business values to our customers on time. They have creative and startup mindsets, and are always excited to take on new and ambiguous projects.

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience in engineering team management

  • Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

  • 10+ years of professional software experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent

  • Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment
