Position Summary:

The Florida Atlantic University (FAU) School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ) invites applications from outstanding candidates for a 12-month full-time position as a Visiting Instructor; this is a term-limited non-renewable position that begins August 5, 2024, on our Boca Raton campus and ends August 1, 2025.

We welcome applications from those with experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities and who cultivate a supportive and inclusive in person and remote learning environment for students. Areas of instructional focus will depend primarily upon program needs and secondarily upon the expertise of the candidate. Applicants are encouraged to address how their instructional experience aligns with the SCCJ undergraduate curriculum. Ideally, the candidate would teach both in-person and remote courses and maintain a campus office, but a fully online course load is possible.

FAU is a Carnegie doctorate-granting university (RU/high research activity) with over 30,000 students and is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution. FAU’s strategic plan focuses on healthy aging, neuroscience, environmental science, and sensing and smart systems and is supported by scholarly activities that address leadership, global perspectives and participation, community engagement, undergraduate research, big data analytics, healthy and sustainable campus environments, and peace, justice, and human rights.

The College of Social Work and Criminal Justice is a partnership between the SCCJ and the Sandler School of Social Work that enables us to reimagine our professions, address a wider spectrum of societal needs, and champion systemic change through teaching, research, scholarship, and service. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who will enrich the experience of students, the faculty, and the wider university community.

The SCCJ has a rich educational environment and is the third largest undergraduate degree program by enrollment at FAU. We offer a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice. The SCCJ offers its courses through diverse delivery methods including face to face, online, and hybrid/blended formats. School initiatives include a decision-making simulation lab, forensics course offerings, community engaged research, study abroad, high school summer camps, a fully online undergraduate degree program, research colloquia, and research partnerships with the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. Our School is committed to creating an accessible, supportive working environment and welcomes colleagues who recognize inclusivity and collegiality as integral components of academic excellence.

This is a full-time, 12-month position that is non-renewable. Instructional load will consist of 4 courses in each of the fall and spring semesters and 2 courses in the summer (10 courses total). The position will require teaching a variety of undergraduate courses that meet the present needs of our School, which may include a mix of on campus and online course sections; teaching all courses fully online may be possible.
