Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a System Administrator or Senior to join our Information Technology team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. This System Administrator performs the following critical support functions such as providing support with configuring, supporting, and maintaining our backup systems which backup Idaho Powers most important data This includes our backup storage systems that house multiple Petabytes of data in addition to the security surrounding those arrays and the backup software that performs the backups and the security of those applications. In addition, they maintain the Critical Infrastructure Protection and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance processes that involve the data backup infrastructure environment. Provides support with configuring and maintaining our 24/7 software that oversees the alerting and monitoring of servers and applications and will provide insight on systems and applications health within Idaho Power. Regular and periodic patching and vulnerability management of applications and backup hardware. Will assist with installing, upgrading, and maintaining the Windows operating systems and hardware. They also participate in support, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting of other applications and hardware as needed. This includes maintaining the daily queue duty and may also participate in installation and projects with business partners.

What does a System Administrator do for us?

System Administrators analyze, install, configure, upgrade, test, document, monitor and maintain software and hardware in support of business processing requirements. Supported systems may include operating systems, business applications, server hardware, security tools, monitoring tools, web servers, application servers, Integration servers, and other departmental or enterprise applications or systems. Provides technical support for problems not resolved by the Integrated Operations Center or IT Service Desk.

A Senior System Administrator will also:

Participate in the development and execution of technology strategies to support organizational activities and direction. Provide advanced level support for systems, including troubleshooting, performance, monitoring, cost-benefit, security, and licensing analysis. Stay aware of industry trends, business requirements, and technical design methodologies to aid in the development of creative/innovative IT/OT solutions.

A STRONG CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

  • Installation, configuration, upgrade, test, document, monitor and maintain software and hardware of relevant technology platform(s) above

Preferred:

  • PowerShell

  • Backup and monitoring systems

  • Disaster Recovery processes and criteria

Skills in:

  • Problem solving

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Verbal and written communication, including effective listening

  • Planning and organizing

Preferred:

  • Project management, leadership, mentoring, and training skills

  • Developing and implementing new technical frameworks and work practices

Ability to:

  • Work proactively in a team environment with minimum supervision

  • Accept responsibility and complete tasks in a timely manner

  • Interact effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel

  • Adapt to new situations, and maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude

Preferred:

  • Work on multiple projects at a time with constant interruptions

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

System Administrator:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field

OR

  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related field

Experience:

  • 2 or more years relevant technology administration experience

Preferred:

  • 4 or more years relevant technology administration experience

Senior System Administrator:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, CIS (Computer Information Systems) or equivalent field

OR

  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, CIS (Computer Information Systems), Cyber Security or a related field

Experience:

  • 5 or more years of professional technology administration experience

Preferred:

  • 8 or more years of experience in a corporate multi-platform technology environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
