State of Massachusetts Health Care Analytics Intern in Boston, Massachusetts

Group Insurance Commission Health Care Analytics Internship * The Group Insurance Commission’s Health Care Policy and Analytics department is seeking a health care analytics internto assist with research and analysis of provider data. This internship is estimated to require approximately 20 hours of time per week and to last until the end of May 2025. Applicants should have strong quantitative skills, substantive prior experience working with claims and/or public health data, some knowledge of the Massachusetts health care market, and the ability to clearly communicate results to diverse audiences. The successful candidate will communicate proactively, work both independently and collaboratively, have excellent attention to detail, and aspire for continuous learning and professional development. The internship will be conducted primarily on a remote basis, with regular meetings conducted via Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams. The scope of work focuses on two primary areas, with a report to the GIC as a final deliverable: 1. Research and validate provider, facility, and system groupings in the Milliman claims data warehouse against internal and external data sources to enable provider-centric claims analyses. o The primary work product is a report containing data findings and recommendations for improving data quality. 2. Exploratory analyses on inpatient and outpatient claims using the provider groupings, such as relative price comparisons, provider price and utilization trends, and quality metrics. 3. As the intern works on the two projects above, s/he will work with the GIC to define a research question relevant to GIC’s ongoing strategy work and develop a report that answers all or part of this question.
