Boston University PROGRAM MANAGER, ANIMAL WELFARE PROGRAM, Research Compliance in BOSTON, Massachusetts

The Program Manager serves as a vital member of the Animal Welfare Program (AWP) and provides support to BU’s research community and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The Program Manager has responsibility for oversight of the AWP Post-Approval Monitoring (PAM) Program to ensure compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies. Responsibilities include: providing administrative leadership of the AWP PAM program; maintaining records documenting PAM activities; observing laboratory practices and procedures; conducting risk assessments; investigating reports of noncompliance; managing the institutional semi-annual facility inspections; and facilitating compliance with IACUC decisions and corrective action plans. Additionally, the Program Manager monitors related regulatory updates and industry best practices; drafts and updates AWP PAM policies, procedures and guidelines; and coordinates training and education on AWP PAM policies. The Program Manager will work under the direction of the Assistant Director of Research Integrity and in collaboration with compliance officials across BU to align processes to ensure consistency across all programs.

The Program Manager will generally perform the following functions:

  • Assist with the development and implementation of AWP policies,

procedures, practices and training programs designed to promote

compliant practices and mitigate risk.

  • Promote awareness of institutional resources and developments in

relevant policies and regulations, and providing specialized training

to the BU research community investigators to assure compliance with

research regulations and standards.

  • Create, coordinate, and implement strategies to improve AWP PAM office

Productivity.

  • Maintain AWP PAM records, analyze data, and prepare reports for the

    IACUC and various regulatory bodies.
  • Provide comprehensive regulatory guidance to the BU research

Community.

  • Keep abreast of federal, state, and local developments and compliance

efforts related to research and developed communication tools to share

this information effectively across the BU research community.

  • Participate or lead special AWP projects from concept to completion.

Required Skills

Bachelor's Degree required, Master's preferred. Related academic, animal care, or research compliance experience considered in substitution. 8 years of experience in related field, or a Master’s and 5 years of related experience. Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) preferred.
