The Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering at CU Boulder is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to join a collaborative effort between the University of Colorado-Boulder and Mesa Quantum Systems. This joint position offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of quantum sensor technology, focusing on Coherent Population Trapping (CPT) based atomic clocks. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research and development of chip-scale quantum sensors for Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) applications. Anticipated start date July 15, 2024.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Develop and conduct advanced research on CPT-based atomic clocks, including theoretical analysis, experimental design, and data interpretation. Develop and optimize quantum sensor technologies, with an emphasis on miniaturization and integration for practical applications. Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers from both the University of Colorado-Boulder, and Mesa Quantum Systems. Publish research findings in leading scientific journals and present at international conferences. Contribute to the development of innovative solutions to enhance resilience against GPS outages and provide accurate timing sources in challenging environments such as underwater or space.

What We Can Offer

The salary for this position is $45,331.00 per year.

Startup funding will be provided to be used solely in support of your research mission.

What We Require

  • A Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a strong background in Atomic, Molecular and Optical physics, or related areas.

  • Demonstrated experience in experimental research, preferably in the field of quantum sensors or atomic clocks.

What You Will Need

  • Proficiency in data analysis, signal processing, and computational modeling.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.

  • Strong communication skills, with a track record of scientific publications and presentations.

  • Experience with Coherent Population Trapping (CPT) techniques and atomic clock development.

  • Familiarity with microfabrication and chip-scale integration processes.

  • Knowledge of Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) systems and applications.
