The SGRE Blade Design department is instrumental in propelling the growth of the wind industry by designing the longest composite structures in the world. Our blades enable cost of energy optimization through technology innovation and systematic design practices. The department is composed of international multi-disciplinary experts in aerodynamics, structures, dynamics, and controls collaborating concurrently in an open, inspiring, and stimulating atmosphere in downtown Boulder, Colorado - an amazing place to work and live with the breathtaking backdrop of the Rocky Mountains and 300 days of sunshine.

SGRE is driven by its engineers, who harness their curiosity and passion for innovation to create renewable solutions. As a Blade Design Loads Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping new products and refining blade aeroelastic performance.

Responsibilities

As a Blade Design Loads engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing wind turbine blades through aeroelastic simulations

  • Contributing to the development of design, analysis, and visualization tools for loads simulations

  • Assessing design-driving load cases and proposing ideas to improve multi-disciplinary system design

  • Optimizing wind turbine controller behavior during blade design projects

  • Collaborating with a diverse group of engineers in a global organization.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

Blade Design Loads engineers are required to possess the following:

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent

  • Minimum relevant experience: Master’s + 4 years or Doctorate + 2 years

  • Aeroelastic modeling experience, preferably with codes such as OpenFAST, Bladed, HAWC2, or equivalent

  • Experience tuning controller behavior in a dynamic system

  • Proficiency coding with MATLAB and Python

  • Strong interest and natural curiosity for wind turbines loads and controls

  • Self-motivation and a sense of urgency to drive and inspire

  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers, chief engineers, and management both orally and in written reports.

  • It is essential that you possess both the desire and the drive to evolve as a design engineer within our organization. Additionally, you should aim to progress into the role of a lead engineer, overseeing a team of 2-3 engineers and interfacing closely with other multidisciplinary leads on design projects. Consequently, possessing a customer-centric, collaborative mindset, along with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, is paramount.

  • Travel required up to 10%.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, Inc., it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $80,000 - $120,000, plus benefits & incentive compensation. The window for applications is expected to close on August 12th 2024.
