Job Description

It’s an exciting time to be part of IFF’s Food protection team. As a research scientist, you will play an important role in our research and strain development/improvement for natural antimicrobials in line with business strategy.

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Scientist specializing in upstream development of antimicrobial strains with a focus on target strain improvement and bio-based process development.

Location will be Brabrand, Denmark at IFF’s R&D site.

Key Responsibilities:

• In charge of strain improvement, lab scale process improvement through molecular biology and microbial fermentation.

• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to address strain improvement requirements.

• Design and conduct microbial strain improvement screenings.

• Conduct instrumental analysis of antimicrobial components in samples to establish an in-depth knowledge of pathways and molecular mechanisms.

• Work from lab scale to production scale with scientists to validate improved strains performance.

• Support scale-up process to production and assist in supply chain management and regulatory review.

• Write technical reports and present findings to key stakeholders.

• Review patents and scientific articles and propose research initiatives aligned business strategies for process improvement.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Biotechnology/Microbiology.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management is essential. Ideally, this experience should be gained in Food/Biotech company.

• Strong understanding of molecular biology is crucial. This includes knowledge of biomolecular synthesis, modifications, mechanisms, understanding of metabolic pathways and interactions within cells.

• Proficiency in techniques related to microbial strain improvement and screening is necessary. These skills involve modifying cellular pathways to enhance product yield and quality.

• Proficiency in statistical data analysis.

• Self-motivation and the ability to take ownership of tasks and agility in adapting to changing situations.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration.

• Strong ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.

• Understanding of fermentation scale-up and downstream processes.

• Experience in high-throughput experimentation for strain and metabolite screening
