BOX ELDER SCHOOL DISTRICT Middle School DLI Teacher-Spanish (PERM) in BRIGHAM CITY, Utah

Box Elder School District seeks a Middle School DLI Teacher (Spanish) in Box Elder County, Utah. Under the direction of the school principal, the teacher is responsible for the education of assigned students in the Target Language of Instruction (Spanish) and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish effective rapport with students; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and the knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Professional relations will be developed and maintained with other staff and parents. DUTIES: (1) Follow Utah Effective Teaching Standards and district policies; (2) Teach grades 8th through 9th subject matter in the Target Language of Instruction (Spanish), i.e., reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, utilizing the state adopted curriculum approved by the Utah State Board of Education's (USBE) Utah Core Standards, correlated with other appropriate learning activities; (3) Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction; (4) Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a safe and positive learning environment; (5) Utilize technology to support student learning, including but not limited to: (a) Smartboards/Smart TVs, Google/Microsoft applications, Canvas and other SIS platforms, and similarly related office products and technologies; (6) Supervise the classroom and other areas of the school campus as required; (7) Measure student progress through state, district, and team created assessments; (8) Maintain accurate records and update gradebooks on a weekly basis to evaluate students' academic growth; (9) Participate in the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process with assigned grade level or content team at least each week; (10) Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website, and other means to discuss academic and citizenship progress and concerns; (11) Participate with the principal in the educator evaluation process including taking annual self-assessments on the Utah Effective Teaching Standards and completing professional growth plans per district policy 3210; (12) Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission (UPPAC); (13) Maintain professional competence through professional development activities provided by the state and district to maintain a current teaching license; (14) Participate in faculty meetings, student IEP/504/Health meetings, school level committee meetings and other school approved activities as required; (15) The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students; (16) All employees are expected to demonstrate respect for the dignity of all students, colleagues, parents and members of the community and are held to high standards of moral and ethical conduct that are consistent with the values taught in our schools; and (17) Such other responsibilities and duties as assigned. [NOTE: Work will be performed at middle schools in the Box Elder School District, all of which are located in cities within Box Elder County, Utah.] REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's degree in any field of study; License: Hold a valid teaching license issued by the Utah State Board of Education, or be eligible to obtain one within 60 days of hire; Other requirements: (1) Must hold or be eligible to obtain within 3 years of hire a Dual Language Immersion and World Language endorsements in the Target Language of Instruction (Spanish) issued by the Utah State Board of Education; (2) If the candidate has not obtained the Dual Language Immersion and World Language endorse m nts referenced above at the time of hire, pass the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) or OPIc, at the Advanced-Mid level or higher in English and the Target Language of Instruction (Spanish). [The English OPI (or OPIc) is waived if the candidate received a post-secondary degree in a country where English is the first language. The OPI (or OPIc) for the Target Language of Instruction (Spanish) is waived if the candidate received a post-secondary degree in a country where the Target Language of Instruction (Spanish) is the first language.]; and (3) Demonstrable ability to: (a) Read, analyze, and interpret information shared by the school and district administrators; (b) Communicate through email and other digital platforms as necessary; (c) Effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, and colleagues; (d) Multitask and connect with students and colleagues; (e) Regularly move around the classroom and interact with students; and (f) Occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs.
