Construction Inspector I: $56,457.970 - $81,864.060 Annually
Construction Inspector II: $59,845.450 - $86,775.900 Annually
We are seeking a candidate to perform construction inspection support duties involving the inspection of work quality, materials, and workmanship used in a variety of Public Works construction projects and subdivisions - all with County-issued permits. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications and departmental regulations. This is an entry level position requiring the most supervision.
Examples of Duties for Success
Review of plans and specifications of assigned projects; demonstrate knowledge and ability to read and understand construction plans; attend pre-construction conferences as assigned.
Learn inspection methodology and procedures; inspect work quality, materials, and workmanship used in a variety of public works improvement and development projects including roadways, bridges, utilities, subdivision, and drainage projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, ordinances, contract documents, and safety requirements.
Inspect various structures such as utilities, streets, sidewalks, gutters, structural concrete, fabricated steel, masonry, sewers, storm sewers, and other off-site construction; checkline, grade, size, elevation, and location of structures for conformance with specifications and regulations including reservoirs, pump stations, transmissions, and distribution of mains.
Perform detailed inspections of pipeline installations, trenching, backfilling, testing, and paving. Inspect routes used in the movement of drilling equipment to prevent and discover damage to roads and bridges.
Take samples of materials for examination and analysis by laboratories; perform field and laboratory material testing on soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete to assure material workmanship and quality; coordinate results of tests and verify approval of structure.
Observe work during progress and upon completion; demonstrate knowledge of job safety procedures and ensure that safety procedures are followed, and work completed in accordance with OSHA requirements.
Prepare activity records and reports; record amounts of material used, and work performed; prepare necessary reports for progress payments.
Demonstrate understanding of the payment and change order procedures for any project through on-the-job experience.
Coordinate project and inspection activities with contractors, the public, and other County departments regarding construction specifications and regulations; provide customer service and respond to citizen complaints.
Demonstrate ability to deal firmly, professionally, and tactfully with contractors, developers, and engineers through on-the-job experience.
Learn applicable laws, regulations, and policies governing construction in the County through on-the-job training.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications for Success
Must have a general overall knowledge of construction plans, interpretation thereof, and the related specifications, and be able to prepare accurate reports. The Ability to learn applicable laws, regulations, codes, and departmental policies governing the construction of assigned projects.
Basic mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry as applied to construction inspection work.
Principles and practices of safe driving.
The ability to perform construction inspections and prepare technical reports.
Computer skills: Use of County approved computer software, including MS Office, Masterworks, GIS, Acella, and operate digital cameras, scanners, printers, plotters, etc.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
More Qualifications for Success
Construction Inspector I
Experience: As an entry-level position, one year of engineering, construction, construction inspection or related experience, such as construction work.
Education and Training: High School Diploma or GED required.
License or Certificate: Possession of, or an ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver's License, Class "R".
Possession of, or ability to obtain, certification as an American Concrete Institute (ACI) Construction Inspector or Colorado Ready Mix Concrete Association (CRMCA)Pavement Inspector, within 12 months of hire.
Construction Inspector II
Experience: Three (3) year of engineering, construction, construction inspection, or related experience, such as construction work.
Education and Training: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
License or Certificate: Possession of, or an ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver's License
Possession of or ability to obtain certification as an American Concrete Institute (ACI) Construction Inspector or Colorado Ready Mix Concrete Association (CRMCA)Pavement Inspector, within 12 months of hire.
Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check
