L3Harris in Bristol/Burgess Hill/Barrow provides warship automation systems through control and simulation solutions that are in service on Albion Class Landing Platform Docks and Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers. More systems are being developed and delivered for Type 26 and Type 31 Frigates.

What the role will involve
The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
Responsible to the Engineering Safety Manager for support in the design, implementation and governance of Safety and Environmental Management Systems and the promotion of a safety culture relevant to design and delivery of systems. Specifically, supporting in the management of Safety Engineering resource and monitoring this to develop and maintain a fit for purpose safety engineering capability for the business.
Deliver safety engineering leadership to project teams in the technical domain, including leading the construction of credible safety cases and ensuring robust safety engineering quantitative and qualitative analysis has been scoped and carried out to required standards, in order to underpin such safety cases.
Undertake safety engineering tasks and analysis, provide in depth knowledge of safety regulations and standards including their application to marine automation systems.
Lead and direct other subordinate safety professionals.
Support the design and implementation of improvements to processes, systems or products.
In addition to these responsibilities, carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required.
What you’ll bring
The role requires the following experience and skills:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. (In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience).
Strong knowledge of safety management; be considered as a specialist within discipline.
Experience of Hazard Management and Risk Assessment including the principles of ALARP and Tolerability.
Knowledge and experience in Def Stan 00-056 and 00-055
Experience to regulations and standards e.g., IEC 61508
Knowledge/understanding/ experience of project management.
Confident in both software and hardware development environments.
Knowledge of marine systems engineering would be beneficial but not essential.
