POSITION: Cook Manager - Non-Competitive SALARY: $38,015 to $44,701 LOCATION: VARIOUS SCHOOL LOCATIONS Food Service Department, 1055 E. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS; An incumbent to a position in this class prepares and cooks foods and manages a school food service program for their respective school. Duties include the actual preparation of food and cooking on a moderately large scale. The incumbents exercises independent judgment in menu planning which must be in accordance with Federal, State and Local guidelines and regulations. General supervision is received from the Supervisor or Assistant Supervisor of Food Service. Immediate supervision is exercised over School Lunch Cook, Food Service Helpers and students assigned to work in the cafeteria. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Prepares and cooks food and manages a school food service program at their respective schools;
Plans menus to meet pupil nutritive requirements;
Requisitions foods and supplies;
Oversees the preparation and serving of food;
Directs the storage and care of foods and supplies;
Supervises the cleaning of the kitchen, serving, storage and dining areas and the care of equipment;
Plans the work schedules of employees;
Assists in the selection and arrangement of kitchen equipment;
Maintains employee time records;
Maintains simple records of food and supplies received and used;
Prepares and submits reports on activities of the cafeteria;
Preforms related work as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS;
Thorough knowledge of approved methods of food preparation;
Working knowledge of the nutritional values of foods;
Working knowledge of large scale food ordering and storage;
Ability to plan and supervise the work of others;
Ability to maintain simple records and prepare reports;
Ability to get along well with children and adults;
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions;
Courtesy; Tact;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
