Job Summary
Based out of our Engineering Center of Excellence in Burnsville, MN, Leonardo DRS Naval Electronics is in search of an Electrical Engineering Manager with Design and Certification Experience in Commercial Avionics Systems. This position will be responsible for supervising a team of Electrical Engineers and completion of projects on time and budget. Involved with the design, development, modification, and analysis of various electronics systems. May include Hardware, Power Engineering, Power Electronic Engineering, Electromagnetic Engineering, Integrated Circuit Engineering, Components, or others. Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in existing products or systems and make modifications as needed. Compile and evaluate design and test data. Analyze, develop, and recommend design approaches.
Job Responsibilities
Supervise Design Efforts for a Critical CCA within the Flight Data Recorder System
Review, define and/or manage specifications and requirements, and develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable
Lead/mentor a small team of Electrical Engineers
Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems, subsystems or components
Drive technical problem resolution and completion of activity on time and budget
Document component and subsystem specifications and material requirements
Provide budget, cost, and schedule input for design assignments
Support program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
Develop prototypes to retire key development or production risks
Communicate clearly (written and oral) with manufacturing, supply chain, program management and the customer
Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians, and support personnel to coordinate, recommend, and confer regarding technical activities and progress
Attend appropriate engineering, customer, or business meetings as a representative of DRS
Specific Activities May Include:
Critical Component Design leadership for engineering on CCAs
Act as internal and customer subject matter expert (SME) for assigned system(s)
Technical point of contact and lead, in preparation of complex small and large proposals and new business pursuits
Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
Involved with the verification and validation of new and / or existing systems / sub-systems. Includes test planning, procedure development, and test execution to verify product design or validate functional operation in the intended environment. Includes documentation of results for use in formal reports. May include development and debug of test hardware and software and system / sub-system hardware and software
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 10 years of experience
Mastery of technologies and domain knowledge
Expected to have knowledge and significant experience in Electrical Engineering discipline
Ability to supervise a technical group independently
Ability to define and complete technical projects independently
Must have relevant experience with Avionics Design and Development in a Structured Engineering Environment
Experience with commercial avionics certification driven by DAL-A requirements per DO-254 and DO-178 are preferred
