Machinist - Heavy Machine Operator (CofA & CofQ required)

Hourly rate of pay: $43.31

We have an opportunity for a Machinist (Heavy Machine Operator) to join our production team at our facility in Cambridge, Ontario. Each member of our team plays a critical role in BWXT Canada’s success and in ensuring we meet our customers’ quality, cost and delivery expectations. Our tradespeople are considered the best in the industry and we are proud of the high level of technical skills they demonstrate every day.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

To machine large, heavy components for the manufacture of nuclear steam generators.

TASKS:

  • Set up and operate CNC and manual machine tools.

  • Program CNC machines.

  • Consistently maintain production of quality machine parts.

  • Read and interpret Work Orders, Drawings, Shop Instruction Sheet (SIS) and supporting documents.

  • Select appropriate tools and apply knowledge and experience of feeds and speeds.

  • Work in a safe manner. Demonstrate good workmanship and practices.

  • Operate Horizontal Boring Mills (prior experience on this equipment is essential).

  • Machine large components (example: 3 to 5 meters in diameter).

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE JOB:

  • Proven commitment to workplace safety.

  • Commitment to quality and the ability to work as a positive, effective team member, willing to go the extra mile to ensure we meet our customer expectations.

  • Must have both a Certificate of Apprenticeship and a Certificate of Qualification.

  • Knowledge and use of precision measuring equipment.

  • Ability to read and write CNC programming.

  • Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations (trigonometry, algebra).

  • Proficiency and demonstrated ability on horizontal and vertical boring machines, supported by a minimum of one year experience.

  • Availability to work all shifts: day shift (4x10, Monday-Thursday, 6am – 4pm); afternoon shift (4x10, Monday-Thursday, 4pm – 2am) or weekend day shift (3X11 [paid for 40 hrs], Friday-Sunday, 6am – 5pm).
