Position Description

Position Title: Transition Alliance Program (TAP) TAP Specialist

Teaching and Learning Report To High School Principal:

Based on Experience Position Type:Standard Hourly TBD

Contract Days: 230

Work Hours:Hours will vary based on student workplace experience in accordance with the regularly scheduled school day

SUMMARY The Transitional Alliance Program: TAP Specialist position is one that involves assisting students enrolled in the Carroll Transition Alliance Program (TAP) in the acquisition of work maturity skills necessary to obtain employment and independently maintain employment in the community. TAP specialists provide ongoing support to TAP students working at various employment sites within the community. This support is individual-based and centered around work-related goals that focus on helping the TAP student obtain the maximum level of independence within their job. TAP Specialists provide the support necessary to ensure success in future employment opportunities. Service will be provided at the student’s place of employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Duties must be performed on-site. Other duties may be assigned.

? Communicate effectively with TAP Coordinator and TAP students

? Establish rapport with Middle School students who are potentially eligible for Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation

? Communicate effectively with Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services

? Schedule meetings with TAP students and the TAP Coordinator as needed.

? Desire to work with young people with

disabilities.

? Self-motivated, flexible, and able to meet deadlines. Must be able to move from one duty or activity to the next independently.

? Able to work with individuals with a wide range of disabilities and from a variety of socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

? Assist in the implementation of individual plans for employment.

? Consistently model appropriate work maturity skills and hold students to the same expectations. ? Provide services to students without discrimination as to race, religion, sex, age, or disabling condition.

? Monitor student’s work performance and provide feedback and prompts when needed. ? Provide proper documentation on all student’s work performance.

? Ensure safety is being maintained in the work environment at all times.

? Know and adhere to established district policies, procedures, and regulations. This includes but is not limited to:

a) Attending district orientation sessions with the Supervisor or their designee. b) Completing one observation session while service is being given at the consumer’s place of employment.

c) Able and willing to obtain Job Coaching Certification.

d) Demonstrating competency in completing all required forms, time cards, and reports.

e) Consistently receive satisfactory performance

evaluations.

? Contact your supervisor with as much notice as possible if ill or in the event of an emergency.

? Uphold and consistently follow program and licensing regulations and procedures carefully for Carroll Community School District and students’ place of employment.

? Maintain and model positive, professional working relationships with consumers and other district staff.

? Accept and integrate supervision. Includes, but not

limited to:

? a) Following the program administrative staff instructions, directives, and

district procedures. Monitoring by case notes and service entries.

? b) Following supervisor instructions/directions regarding service provided to students as monitored by case notes and supervisor evaluations.

? Provide service for students regardless of location by creating and maintaining an atmosphere that is welcoming, understanding, communicative, and supportive of students. ? Through work performance evaluations, demonstrate a solid working knowledge of the most frequently encountered disabilities of students and the ability to provide specific, quality service for them.

? Attend required meetings and in-service training

sessions.

? Under the direction of the TAP Coordinator, assist participants in learning skills and completing activities necessary to obtain and be successful in competitive employment or facilitate activities where participants can learn the skills. These skills may include:

? Writing resumes

? Completing job applications

? Obtaining information on job openings

? Interviewing

? Accessing organizations and agencies that assist in job placement and/or referral ? Accessing training or educational programs

? Learning actual, specific job skills

? Coaching the participant at the job site

? Learning and utilizing problem-solving skills necessary to be successful on the job

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

? Required: Associate’s degree.

? Preferred: Previous work experience in the area of transitioning individuals into the world of work and/or special education experience.

? Preferred: One year of experience delivering supported employment services or direct care services either in a classroom, place of employment, daycare, medical, or residential setting.

LANGUAGE SKILL:Ability to read and interpret documents such as student reading achievement data, and building achievement data reports. Ability to write reports of a detailed nature for various audiences. Demonstrated ability in writing effective correspondence. Demonstrated ability to speak effectively before groups including parents, staff, and

community members.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to analyze and interpret data.

REASONING ABILITY:Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to develop appropriate programs for students in special education.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Required:Associate’s degree or higher, Job Coach Certification or willingness to obtain within a year of the date of hire Required: Valid driver’s license

Demonstrated skill and ability in using various computer application software including Google Suite of products, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, bend, and reach 0 -12 inches and on occasion from 0 - 24 inches. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds for example school supplies and books or equipment 0 - 12 feet and on occasion up to 20 feet. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing ability to monitor the presence and activity of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
