We are currently looking for a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher for our classroom at Chappaqua Central School District.

PAY:$28,000-$30,000

Please note this will be hourly pay & not salary, however you will get paid consistently under our new Fixed Rate UPK Options. Fixed Rate Options will be discussed during the Offer

STATUS: 10 months (aligned to district calendar)

HOURS: 8:00 am-2:00pm

The Pre-K program provides four-year-old children with a universal opportunity to access high-quality pre-kindergarten programs that prepare them for future school success. This position will require a high degree of creativity, cultural awareness, and problem-solving capabilities. The program focuses on child-centered activities, the development of strong foundational skills in early literacy and numeracy, social interactions, and Kindergarten readiness skills. The successful candidate should possess experience with early literacy, multi-disciplinary approaches, and strategies for meeting the needs of diverse learners.

Requirements

Responsibilities will always include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program for PreK students, meeting UPK School District requirements.

  • Plan, prepare, and teach well-developed culturally responsive lessons.

  • Assess, track, and provide relevant and timely feedback on the achievement and developmental needs of students.

  • Use age-appropriate and positive guidance strategies to teach, encourage, and redirect inappropriate classroom behavior.

  • Build relationships with staff and families through positive and professional communication, creating a welcoming environment, respecting diversity, and encouraging parent participation in the program.

  • Work collaboratively with teacher assistants

  • Design the room layout for success using ECERS (Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale)

  • Developing activities that promote literacy and math concepts – following the Creative Curriculum

  • Participating in ongoing in-service and education development opportunities, and participating in the ongoing development and evaluation of the program’s goals and objectives

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current NYS teaching certificate valid for service in the early childhood grades

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred)

  • Experience teaching preschool-age children

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

To be qualified as a Pre-K teacher, a person must possess either:

  • (a) New York State Certification Birth-Grade 2 OR

  • (b) New York State Certification N-6 OR

  • (c) New York State Certification P, K, 1-6 OR

  • (d) Bachelor’s Degree & 5-Year Plan

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Please note applicants for this position will be required to complete standard background screenings which include fingerprinting, NYS child abuse clearance, physical & TB test

  • Must pass a full background check, including fingerprinting, references,

  • Warm, friendly, caring, upbeat personality. Exceptional people skills in dealing with young children, parents, and staff. Professional, reliable, and prompt.

  • Must have the stamina and physical flexibility (walking, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, pulling, running, reaching, climbing, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs.) without assistance to participate in children’s activities.
