JOB POSTING: GENERAL LABORER SANITATION - FULL TIME
The City of Charlestown has an immediate opening for a truck driver in the Sanitation Dept.
POSITION: Sanitation Truck Driver
WORK SCHEDULE: As assigned, generally 7am-3pm M-F
STATUS: Full Time/Part Time hourly, non-exempt
PAY RATE: Maximum salary $22.60/hr as determined by City Ordinance

Distinguishing Characteristics
Laborers in the Sanitation Department are responsible for the day-to-day activities and operation of solid waste collection and disposal for the City of Charlestown. Laborers may be hired at full time or part time status depending on departmental staffing needs. Pay rates are dependent upon the skill level, knowledge, experience, and education of the laborer according to the following scale:
Class A Laborer - Team Leader
o
Extended experience in sanitation services
o
Assists Director with training and supervision of daily assignments for laborer teammates
o
May serve as acting supervisor in the absence of the Director
o
Must demonstrate ability to operate all departmental equipment, trucks, lifts, and must obtain and maintain appropriate licenses for such equipment including possession of a valid Indiana Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement and a safe driving record.
o
Must demonstrate ability to instruct others in the use of all equipment required for regular work performance.
o
Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all sanitation routes, procedures, and common practices.
Class B Laborer - Intermediate
o
Moderate experience in sanitation services.
o
Must obtain and maintain appropriate licenses for operating department equipment including possession of a valid Indiana Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement and a safe driving record.
o
Ability to operate truck mechanisms for lifting, dumping, and setting trash receptacles down and to perform manual labor when needed to collect miscellaneous items.
o
Demonstration of a willingness to learn and advance in levels of employment is anticipated
Class C Laborer - Entry Level and/or Part Time
o
Minimal or no experience in sanitation services
o
Possesses a strong willingness to learn the functions and responsibilities of solid waste collection systems.
o
Must obtain and maintain appropriate licenses for operating department equipment including possession of a valid Indiana Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement and a safe driving record, or at minimum is expected to begin the process of required license certifications and work actively toward those goals
o Demonstrates a strong sense of motivation
