University of Virginia Laboratory Lead Technician (Medical Lab) in Charlottesville, Virginia

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager or Assistant Manager, the Lead Technician is responsible for planning, maintaining and monitoring all of the functions within a defined scope of testing within the department, including ensuring that the department meets all standards set forth by CAP, TJC, CMS and AABB.

  • Ensures all policies, procedures and manuals are current and accurate. Provides leadership to meet compliance requirements with all pertinent federal, state and accreditation standards.

  • Develops effective programs which address continuous quality improvement and systems enhancement with input from manager and/or assistant manager and staff.

  • Maintains appropriate inventories and effectively manages use of supplies and reagents.

  • Develops effective programs which address continuous quality improvement and systems enhancement with input from manager and/or assistant manager and staff.

  • Provide area specific support/clinical activities and staff direction.

  • Defines and monitors pre- and post- analytical specimen processes.

  • Serves as primary trainer and mentor to new and existing staff.

Position Compensation Range: $24.72 - $39.55 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree with completion of a NAACLS approved MLS/CLS program OR Bachelor’s in Biology/Chemistry or related science OR Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a NAACLS approved MLT program OR Associate Degree or 60 semester hours with 6 hours in Chemistry and 6 hours in Biology and Accredited MLT Training

Experience: 3 years relevant experience.

Licensure: MLT, MT or categorical ASCP, or equivalent preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires sitting, standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking, bending/stooping and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer use. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, noise, radiation (in limited specific areas), blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
