General Statement of Duties
Under general direction, this employee is responsible for providing a broad range of group and individual activities and services for individuals with disabilities. Duties include planning and leading activities for various therapeutic programs and supervision of part-time/seasonal employees assigned to those programs. In addition, this employee facilitates the inclusion of individuals with disabilities into general Recreation Commission programs through the provisions of accommodations and support. Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications (KSAs)

Knowledge of:
Basic methods of instruction and teaching techniques.
Common communicable diseases and infectious conditions (e.g. measles, mumps, colds, flu, etc.) so can recognize most common symptoms in participants and can help avoid spreading those diseases and conditions.
Characteristics of participants (e.g. by age, disability, sex, etc.)
Basic activities and services appropriate and available for different groups.
Customer service.
Trends in recreation.
Communication techniques.
Emergency safety procedures.
Working knowledge of current safety policies, instructions for proper usage, and other procedures and professional practices required for completing job duties.
Financial policies and procedures of the Department of Recreation's Financial Management Division.
Policies and regulations of the Department of Recreation and the rules and policies of the Cincinnati Recreation Commission.
Appropriate application of emergency aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Correct method of organizing a program in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Recreation Commission.

Plan activities reflective of the needs and desires of the community.
Enforce the rules and regulations of the Cincinnati Recreation Commission.
Work effectively with people of all groups and socio-economic backgrounds.
Transfer skills and expertise into recreation programs and services.
Manage time and resources; set activity priorities.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Develop, organize, and implement appropriate activities and services.
Perform simple clerical duties related to assigned programs (e.g. address envelopes, place papers in alphabetical or chronological order, take an accurate telephone message, use a photocopier to duplicate flyers).
Directly instruct, teach, and/or program.
Manage the work of part-time employees assigned to assist in a program or activity.
Required Education and Experience
Each applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Therapeutic Recreation. Additionally, each applicant must have certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or be eligible to take the CTRS exam with 600 verifiable hours of experience in recreation programming for individuals with disabilities; OR have a high school diploma/GED and a minimum of 2,500 verifiable hours of paid experience in therapeutic recreation programming for individuals with disabilities. (Therapeutic Programming is defined as recreational programs designed specifically for individuals with disabilities.)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid Driver's License, when required.
Must be willing to work irregular hours, evening hours, overnight, and weekends, if required.
Must be willing to be reassigned to a variety of Community Center Director assignments, if required.
Must be willing to work at multiple work sites during a workday, if required.
Must be able to furnish own transportation.
Must be reasonably flexible in stressful and/or emergency situations.
Must be willing to work with children, teens, seniors, adults, and/or with persons with disabilities, when required.
Must hold appropriate required certifications for specific agency assignments (e.g. Aquatics or Therapeutics).
Must be an excellent communicator and team builder.
MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.

The City of Cincinnati 80/20 offers 3 medical plans to all full time City of Cincinnati employees and eligible dependents: the 80/20 PPO medical plan, the HDHP medical plan with an HSA contribution, and a Health Reimbursement Arrangement for those enrolled on another non-city eligible group plan.

Most full time City employees are eligible to participate in a supplemental life insurance program, a long term disability plan, and accident and critical illness insurance programs at their own expense. Premiums are determined by age, amount of coverage, and various additional factors.
Flexible Benefits Plans
Healthcare Flex Spending Account
City employees can participate in the Healthcare Flex Spending Account that can be used to pay out-of-pocket medical, prescription, dental, and vision care expenses for employees and family members.
Dependent Care Flex Spending Account
City employees can participate in a Dependent Care Flex Spending Account that can be used to pay work-related dependent care expenses. Participants can set aside money each year through pre-tax payroll deductions to pay for these expenses.
Transportation Expense Reimbursement Account
City employees can participate in a Transportation Expense Reimbursement Account (TERA) that can be used to reimburse expenses related to traveling to and from work. Participants can set-up a pre-tax payroll deduction up to an IRS regulated amount.
Healthy Lifestyles Program
City employees can voluntarily participate in a wellness incentive program that encourages and rewards employees and their spouses/equal partners for making positive choices for better health. The City of Cincinnati will contribute up to $300/year to a Health Reimbursement Account for each the employee and their spouse/equal partner for meeting specified program goals. These dollars can be used to offset qualified out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Integrated Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)
This is a voluntary program that serves as an alternative healthcare option to traditional medical plans. If you have alternate group health coverage available to you through a spouse, equal partner, another job, or a non-city retirement plan, you may be eligible for this plan which reimburses you for the difference in premiums between the plans and your covered out of pocket expenses on the other plan.
Retirement Plan
The City provides a defined benefit pension plan for part-time and full-timeemployees. New hires and re-hired employees are required to participate in the City of Cincinnati's Retirement System (CRS), regardless of previous participation in an Ohio State pension system or any another state or federal pension system. CRS is funded by employer and employee contributions, and investment returns from plan assets. CRS provides retirement and health care benefits subject to eligibility requirements. The following groups are excluded from participation in CRS: Mayor and Members of City Council; Sworn Police & Fire; Police Recruits; and Rehired Ohio Police & Fire Retirees.
Deferred Compensation
As an Ohio government employer, the City offers employees the ability to participate in a 457(b) tax-deferred retirement savings plan. The City makes an annual match to your 457(b) of up to $750, or as otherwise specified in applicable regulations and union contracts.
