Job Summary Leads change and establishes a culture of safety within the Locomotive Department to ensure repair and inspection of locomotives are performed safely according to CSX Transportation (CSXT) safety rules and maintenance procedures and is compliant with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulatory standards. Integrates best practices in safety, quality, and production as well as analyzes and forecasts Locomotive Operations Departmental operating trends for consistent, continuous improvement for assigned Locomotive Plant. Ensures flawless integration of best practices with other Locomotive Plants, Shops and Service Centers. Builds solid relationships cross-functionally with key parties and strives to align work processes with customer needs with Transportation and Material Departments. Coaches, trains, and develops employees to achieve desirable results. Manages operational budget to achieve plan. Primary Activities and Responsibilities Lead change and establish a culture of safety within a Locomotive Plant through evaluation and implementation of best practices in safety, quality, production, elimination, control, and communication of safety hazards and other related issues for assigned divisions Oversee quality inspections, repairs for locomotives directed to the local Service Center, Shop and Back-shop ensuring that required work is performed safely and in compliance with CSXT, and FRA standards. Achieve the established performance service metrics for Locomotive Score Card measurements and system-wide operational goals. Employs process excellence tools and methodologies to analyze and forecast production trends for assigned locomotives to ensure consistent, continuous improvement. Manage and control the operational budget for assigned location, leveraging tools and resources to evaluate cost effectiveness goals to achieve plan. Establish succession plans for key jobs within assigned location. Coach, develop, and monitor succession plan candidates to achieve desired results. Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED 7 or more years of supervisory experience in Transportation, Logistics, Rail Operations, Military, Skilled Trades (building, construction, electrical, or mechanical), Business/Strategic Management, or related field Preferred Qualifications Graduate Degree 10 or more years of supervisory experience in Locomotive Maintenance or Locomotive Engineering Knowledge and Skills Collective bargaining agreements and the Railway Labor Act Locomotive Maintenance requirements and subsystems Locomotive Repair requirements and Troubleshooting methods Financial forecasting and analysis skills Railroad industry Negotiation skills Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership / executive audiences Leadership The CSX Leadership Model is the foundation of our Talent Strategy and is what drives CSX performance.
