The Staff Software Engineer will make significant contributions to the New Product Development (NPD) pipeline and transform patient care through innovation. The Staff Software Engineer is responsible for working with our NPD teams to design and develop product software for use in cutting edge medical devices and associated capital equipment.

Key responsibilities:
Design and develop embedded software for medical devices
Translate high-level customer needs into technical options while analyzing trade-offs and business impact
Document designs and specifications per design control processes
Lead design discussions and code reviews
Collaborate with vendors throughout the design and development process
Use Agile software development methodology as part of daily software development activities
Mentor junior members of the engineering staff to expand design capabilities and establish good working practices
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or related engineering field required; advanced degree preferred
Minimum 7 years' experience in a direct software engineering or software architectural role in a New Product Development environment
Proven experience with embedded electrical and/or software design
Deep understanding of embedded system software design concepts
Experience developing software for embedded Real-Time Operating Systems (QNX, Embedded Linux, VxWorks, etc.)
Experience developing embedded software systems in C (preferred Modern C )
Experience developing UML diagrams (e.g. Enterprise Architect, Visual Paradigm, MS Visio, Rational Rose, etc.)
Proven ability working with system-level tools and processes used for requirements management, risk management, issue tracking, and test automation (e.g. Integrity, JAMA, Jira, Google Test, CppUnit, CppTest, etc.)
Ability to travel up to 10%, domestic and international travel
Preferred:
Experience developing algorithms for power electronics and/or control systems
Experience with power electronics hardware/software integration
Experience with Systems Engineering activities: requirements management, requirements development, and verification
Experience with external standards such as IEC 62366, IEC 62304, or IEC 61508
Experience with realtime network protocol(s), e.g., DDS (RTI Connext DDS, OpenDDS, etc.) MQTT, or similar networking protocols
Experience within a medical device or other highly regulated environment
Experience debugging embedded hardware systems
Experience developing Qt applications and/or Qt QML plugs
Creation and maintenance of interface control specifications for electrical, software, and mechanical systems
