We are seeking a Scientist with an innovative mindset to join our Photoprotection Clinical and Physics (Instrumental) Sciences Evaluation Intelligence Team in our Clark, New Jersey research facility.

As a key member of the team, you will manage and execute sun care studies on regulated Over the Counter (OTC) and cosmetic products to ensure testing is conducted in accordance with local regulatory agencies for global regulatory compliance of L’Oréal OTC/Cosmetic products, support L’Oréal team with regard to photobiology and photoprotection, develop scientific knowledge in this field, and ensure the best quality practices are utilized.

In this role you will ensure L'Oréal's sun care products are in compliance with domestic and international regulations by working cross-functionally with the skin, suncare and makeup development labs, as well as the international hubs, the safety and regulatory teams.

As a Scientist in our Photoprotection Clinical and Instrumental Evaluation Intelligence Team, your main responsibilities are:

  • Understand forecasting and manage deadlines to ensure timely initiation and efficient completion of SPF, UVA and Visible light testing.

  • Work with development chemists to receive all submission requirements and work cross-functionally to acquire necessary safety and regulatory documentation needed for shipment.

  • Create and manage photoprotection studies by contacting vendors to schedule new testing and review quotes.

  • Request and manage PO process for each study with development team admins, as well as review invoices for payment at end of study.

  • Ship and track samples.

  • Monitor study progress and keep tracking sheet updated.

  • Review results for quality and accuracy.

  • Communicate study status and test results to internal partners.

  • Review draft reports for finalization.

  • Record study documents in all L’Oréal internal systems.

  • Effectively communicate issues and risks within team.

  • Assist in the validation process for current and new vendors.

  • Add value by utilizing scientific, technical and regulatory approaches.

  • Promote photoprotection and photobiology knowledge, and scientific development.

  • Validate and monitor quality of new and existing vendors on the core sunscreen list for North America.

  • Other administrative tasks and routine duties as assigned.

    To Succeed in this Position, You Have:

  • A completed Bachelor's degree is required. Areas of study include Biological, Physical or Material Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related fields. Masters preferred.

  • 1-3 years of experience in skin care (preferably sun care products and/or OTC products) is required. Experience in quality assurance, regulatory affairs, CRO testing, or Pharmaceutical Clinical Research preferred.

  • Experience in photoprotection research (in-vivo SPF tests, UVA in-vitro tests), formulation development or regulatory affairs, is preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills, scientific excellence, analytical mindset and pragmatism.

  • Willing to take initiative regarding project management.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines, and prioritize daily tasks for multiple projects/activities.

  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated problem solving ability.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills,

  • Ability to work in an inter-disciplinary and cross-functional team.

  • Computer proficiency.

  • Data analysis and general knowledge of statistics is a plus.

  • Knowledge of US/ international cosmetics and OTC regulations preferred

  • Experience with cosmetics, skin care and personal care products preferred

  • Project management experience with multiple projects and varying priorities

  • Computer proficiency: Excel, Power-Point, Word, Outlook

  • Statistical analysis/interpretation experience

  • Scientific writing/ report writing experience

  • The ability to lift 35 lbs (11.3 kg) (required)

  • The ability to be onsite, in the office as this is an essential function of the position (required)

  • Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent, ongoing basis without the need for legal sponsorship now or in the future (required)
