Cold Spring Harbor Lab is hiring for a Purchasing Agent.

• Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Senior Purchasing Agent when assigned by the Director of procurement.
• Responsible for negotiating the purchase price and delivery terms of scientific goods and services with suppliers; issues formal purchase order to vendor to finalize the transaction.
• Responsible for supporting the reagent requirements of the Shared Resources DNA Sequencing Facility.
• Supports the special needs of the Transgenic Mouse Facility.
• Resolves purchase order and invoice discrepancies with suppliers.
• Responsible for the procurement of capital equipment, which includes securing the appropriate administrative approvals (budgetary, safety, facilities, etc.); obtaining competitive bids from suppliers; establishing equipment profile for asset management purposes.
• Responsible for the return of damaged or incorrect merchandise received from a vendor. This includes preparing material return documents; coordinating the movement of material/equipment with the end-user, the CSHL shipping dept. and the vendor.
• Identifies alternate sources of supply for high-cost and high-volume goods and services

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of college credits and work experience.EXPERIENCE:
Three years of progressively responsible procurement experience, including familiarity with laboratory chemicals, reagents, and enzymes.
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong decision-making and analytical skills.
• Must be computer literate.
• Knowledge of Lawson Business Software is desirable.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
