Job Summary
The Regulatory Case Manager works in a team environment to support AEP’s utility company filing activities across multiple state regulatory agencies. These activities primarily consist of developing and executing rate filing strategies aimed at cost recovery and earnings realization. In particular, the Case Manager is responsible for managing the key elements required for successful case outcomes including case strategy, expert witness testimony development, minimum state filing requirements, discovery management and case litigation support. The position requires strong project and time management skills, effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate and guide cross functional teams towards common goals under tight deadlines. Experience in regulated utilities is highly preferred.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Lead cross-functional teams to develop and manage major rate filings with state regulatory commissions in support of AEP’s operating company investments and strategic initiatives
Ensure filing proposals align with operating company and corporate strategies
Coordinate and guide diverse teams to meet filing deadlines, while at times, managing multiple cases
Develop teams and networks that extend through the company from which to draw necessary information to develop regulatory strategies
Serve as a regulatory liaison between operating company leadership and AEP Service Corp
Provide support and guidance to junior Regulatory staff as necessary or on specific project assignments
Manage the overall case filing process, including:
Support and coordinate the review of multiple company witness’ direct and rebuttal testimonies
Ensure accuracy and completeness of filing schedules per state requirements
Facilitate discovery process among case witnesses, support staff and legal counsel
Lead filing team calls and meetings to achieve results and deliverables
Recommend alternative regulatory strategies and develop analyses to address and overcome case obstacles and intervening positions, including and based on:
Alternative cost recovery strategies
Direct and rebuttal testimony strategies
State commission decisions and policies, as well as peer utility regulatory proposals and outcomes as they affect the operating companies’ filing opportunities
Maintain knowledge of industry trends and policies that impact the company’s operations:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business, Economics, Engineering or Finance. Legal degrees and related credentials will also be considered.
Work Experience requirement:
Regulatory Case Manager Grade 9:
Minimum of 6 years of experience with emphasis on one or more of the following - utility accounting and applications, rates, tariff development and application, commercial operations, management, and/or other pertinent experience.
Electric utility experience is preferred.
Regulatory Case Manager Grade 10:
Minimum of 8 years of experience with emphasis on one or more of the following - utility accounting and applications, rates, tariff development and application, commercial operations, management, and/or other pertinent experience.
Electric utility experience is required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to travel, including overnight, to support regulatory case activity and ongoing training.
Physical demand level is Sedentary
This role can be considered at either a Grade 9 or Grade 10 based on experience and skill set.

$112,869 - $146,730
Regulatory Case Manager - Grade 10:
$132,562 - $172,333
