About the Role: Employees in the Construction Technician classification will perform an assortment of tasks required to complete construction projects for Horizon's fiber broadband network. Tasks include installation and maintenance of fiber optic cable, as well as the installation, maintenance, and connection of aerial and buried drops.  Cutover responsibilities and routine maintenance and repair of construction equipment is also a primary duty for Construction Technicians.  About Shentel: Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) provides broadband services through its high speed, state-of-the-art fiber-optic and cable networks to customers in seven contiguous states in the eastern United States. Essential Job Functions: •    Operate all construction equipment as required to install, replace, or maintain outside fiber optic cable facilities.  •    Interpret engineering prints of construction projects and build fiber optic cable plant according to engineering requirements.  •    Maintain a safe work area and follow Work Area Protection Guidelines. •    Aerial construction will involve operating digger derrick, climbing poles, connecting all necessary hardware, attaching fiber optic cable to strand with a spinner, attaching ADSS fiber optic cable, pole anchor installation, and removal of aerial cable. •    Buried construction will involve operating cable plows, trenchers, boring machines, backhoes, dump trucks, bulldozers, and any other equipment, placement of hand holes, placement of buried service drops, and repair of property disturbed by buried construction activity. •    Underground construction will involve operating winch lines, installation and use of manhole racks and wheels, rodding ducts, pulling in cable, installing and repairing ducts, testing and purging of manholes. •    Place and replace aerial and buried drops as necessary. These activities will be performed on the customer side of the fiber optic terminal. The activities may include connecting the drop in the fiber optic terminal, mounting a network interface device, placing and connecting a ground rod. •    Perform an assortment of tasks associated with cutover activities including locating underground cable. •    Perform record-keeping tasks associated with daily activities, including completing material usage forms and other plant maintenance forms.  •    Perform maintenance of construction equipment such as changing fluids, belts, filters, and minor repair or replacement of parts. •    General labor such as cleaning storage areas, moving company equipment, or other similar activities. •    Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: •    High School Diploma/GED.   •    Valid CDL must be obtained within 90 days of placement in the position.   •    Demonstrated working proficiency in operating a backhoe, bucket truck, traffic control and ladder operation.  •    Skilled in basic applicable safe
