Northrop Grumman, Propulsion Systems, is currently seeking a Test Engineer 2/3 to provide testing support in our Test and Research Operations Value Stream team at the Promontory, Utah site.

Role Description:

As a Test Engineer, this position develops environmental, structural, dynamic, and static test processes for aerospace components including rocket motors, rocket motor initiation systems, ordnance devices, and illuminating devices using customer specifications, engineering drawings, test plans and other documentation as applicable.

  • Test preparation process includes review of requirements, development and coordination of safety protocols, design and integration of support equipment, and documenting the test process.

  • Position is responsible for; selection and integration of test instrumentation and data acquisition systems, development of ordnance initiation process, training test technicians, troubleshooting test anomalies, and review of test data.

  • Works closely with the Safety and Hazards Analysis departments and support cross functional teams in designing and setting up energetic test processes.

  • Must have demonstrated ability to manage complex test projects and be non-compromising with regards to safety even when working under pressure.

  • Must be comfortable presenting technical data to internal/external customers, suppliers, and vendors.

  • Test engineers spend time in test facilities (including at offsite customers) developing solutions to a variety of complex testing challenges.

Education/Certifications

  • B.S. degree in an engineering discipline. Prefer Electrical Engineering

  • 2 years minimum experience with Bachelor’s degree

  • 0-2 years’ experience with Master’s degree

Position may be filled at a higher level requiring a B.S. degree in an engineering discipline plus 5 years’ experience.

Experience Requirements:

  • Must be able to qualify for an Alcohol Tobacco and Firearm (ATF) “Explosives Possessor” designation.

  • Must be able to qualify for a Department of Defense security clearance.

  • Must be disciplined to follow detailed instructions and comply with procedures.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to create clear and understandable planning for operators.

  • Detail oriented but able to understand the big picture.

  • Have a working knowledge of test tooling or tooling development, test structures, test instrumentation and data systems.

Experience Preferred:

  • Prior experience supporting Testing Operations.

  • Ability to create/modify simple sketches in CAD or related software for planning sketches.

Salary Range: $75,300 - $112,900

Salary Range 2: $92,600 - $139,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
