Minimum Qualifications Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science) and one year of experience related to the area of assignment at the Biological Research Technician 1 level; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Additional Required Qualifications Expertise in IK, including ethnobotany (ecology and uses of plants that are culturally significant to Tribal Nations), use of cultural burning, and traditional land uses. Knowledge of Oregon Tribal land-management practices. Soil science and ethnobotany field skills. Ecocultural restoration skills, including restoration of native plants. Ability to engage in project outreach. Strong, positive pre-existing relationships within Oregon Tribal administrators. Emerging leadership and management skills. Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. 75% Assist with fieldwork data collection, focusing on forest community ecology, which includes ethnobotany, silviculture, soil science, and wildlife surveys, and SOS seed collections 25% Assist with developing relationships with Tribal Nations in Oregon. Tribal engagement activities include attending Tribal community events and supporting interns who are members of Oregon Tribal Nations by helping to create an environment that is welcoming for Tribal interns to learn STEM within the context of Indigenous Knowledge, and to incorporate cultural elements specific to Oregon Tribal Nations (e.g., ethnobotany) into the field experience of the Tribal interns.
