Position: Dispatch Supervisor
Job Description:
Forward Air is seeking a Dispatch Supervisor to lead our fast-paced shipping/dock operation. This candidate will be responsible for providing the team with great leadership and innovation. The qualified candidate will provide oversight of the dispatch team and seek maximum route efficiency along with optimum driver production. The candidate must possess the leadership skills necessary for team buy-in and the courage to make changes when necessary. In addition, the supervisor will provide training, performance feedback, and provide discipline within the team.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
Provide good leadership and be a positive role model for the team
Critical thinking and make decisions
Champion department’s key performance indicators to completion and reporting
Ensure administrative duties are carried out
Ensure phone, email, administrative, and operational duties are adequately covered for vacations, absences, etc.
Manage escalations from customers, sales, and operations to completion and provide post event coaching
Troubleshoot challenges and make decisions that promote service and quality
Ensure your team has the adequate tools to successfully complete their job
Manage payroll and overtime
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Strong team player that thrives in a fast-paced environment
Ability to drive performance of direct reports and lead a team in a lean manufacturing environment
Prior air freight experience is required
International/Import experience is a plus
Must have two (2) or more years of supervisory experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Must possess demonstrated leadership ability
Knowledge of proper freight handling techniques
Knowledge of Hazardous Materials handling
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of operations
Must be flexible to work days and nights
Forklift and general freight handling experience
Skills:
The ideal candidate will possess a “can do” attitude with a “will do” work ethic
Can regularly give and receive candid and constructive feedback
General computer skills - Microsoft Office, Outlook, AS400
Transportation industry knowledge and experience is a plus
