MAGNOLIA RIVER Intern - GIS in Decatur, Alabama

Primary Function: The GIS Intern assists with the collection, management, and analysis of GIS and GPS data. The intern will support various GIS-related activities and collaborate with team members to ensure the successful completion of projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in creating, maintaining, and modifying GIS databases.
  • Perform GIS-related activities such as GPS field data collection, data creation, conversion, management, and quality control.
  • Help interpret maps and other required data for project deliverables.
  • Provide technical support for Esri and other GIS software applications.
  • Track progress and report to management regularly.
  • Work to become well versed in industry best practices and emerging technologies
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report any unsafe activities to a supervisor or Human Resources.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the GIS Manager or Project Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of integrated GPS and GIS principles.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Esri software, and other related applications.
  • General understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and datums.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a team environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Education and Experience:

  • Enrollment in a Geography, Geospatial Information Systems, or related program.
  • Basic experience or coursework in GIS and GPS technologies.
  • Experience with Esris ArcGIS software is a plus.

Additional:

  • This will be primarily a remote work environment. A strong preference to attending the bi-monthly in-office days to support team building and coordination.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Physical Demands:

Duties are performed in an office environment.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
  • The ability to identify and distinguish colors, distances, and spatial relationships.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers and clients. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
