The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) is a member-based Association that improves the health of the public by strengthening state-based leadership and expertise for chronic disease prevention and management. NACDD’s core membership is composed of the 59 State and Territorial Health Department Chronic Disease Directors and their staff who protect the health of the public through primary and secondary prevention efforts and work “upstream” on root causes of chronic conditions. In addition, NACDD unites 7,000 chronic disease professionals across the United States working in state, tribal, and territorial health departments; nonprofits; academia; and the private industry to promote health and reduce the burden of chronic disease. As a national, nonprofit, professional Association, we advocate, educate, and provide technical assistance to inform programming and grow chronic disease prevention knowledge, leadership, and capacity.

POSITION SUMMARY

The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our organization as a Public Policy Analyst to support the work of NACDD’s Center for Health Policy and the Vice President of Policy. NACDD is a member-based not-for-profit Association that improves the health of the public by strengthening state-based leadership and expertise for chronic disease prevention and control in states and at the national level. NACDD’s role continues to be that of standing in the gap, linking resources with its member-experts, and together creating a safer, healthier, and more equitable America.

Reporting to the Vice President of Policy, this position will provide day-to-day support for the Center for Health Policy’s activities, identify opportunities for policy research and analysis, and ensure the completion of high-quality deliverables in accordance with established priorities and timelines. This position will collaborate with NACDD consultants, outside government affairs consultants, and NACDD internal departments (e.g., Communications, Evaluation, Finance). The Public Policy Analyst will also communicate with national partners, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention staff, and NACDD Members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Monitor, track, and analyze relevant legislative and regulatory policies at the national, state, and local level;

  • Perform independent policy research and other activities to further the Association’s goals;

  • Assist with policy writing, including memos, issue briefs, and policy statements;

  • Assist in the development of model policy;

  • Summarize, write-up, and present policy analysis findings in a clear and concise manner;

  • Provide briefings to senior leadership on the status of key policy and partnership activities;

  • Keep leadership informed of legislative developments that impact existing and/or proposed programs, state and local health departments, national non-governmental organizations, etc.;

  • Assist in planning and executing in-person and virtual policy education offerings;

  • Monitor news sources for articles that relate to NACDD’s policy priorities and author NACDD’s Legislative and Policy Newsletter;

  • Write content for other NACDD publications;

  • Maintain database of NACDD policy activities and sign-on letters;

  • Perform other duties, as assigned or as necessary, to achieve department goals and objectives.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Health, or related field with minimum of 3-5 years of experience required;

  • Familiarity with federal and state legislative process required;

  • Interest and experience in chronic disease policy areas such as diabetes prevention and/or management, oral health, vision and eye health, Alzheimer’s, lupus, cancer and heart disease, stroke prevention (i.e., cardiovascular health);

  • Effective oral and written communication and organizational skills with strong attention to detail;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with senior leaders and key partners;

  • Self-motivated and willing to execute day-to-day tasks independently and with confidence and reliability;

  • Good entrepreneurial work ethic and a desire to “get the job done;”

  • Ability to understand and present complex concepts to various audiences;

  • Ability to speak and deliver presentations in front of large groups;

  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple priorities and follow through effectively;

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint);

  • Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and Teams;

  • Available to travel as needed;

  • Ability and willingness to shift between strategic thinking and administrative tasks;

  • Perform other duties, as assigned or necessary, to achieve the Center’s goals and objectives.

LOCATION:

Remote/Hybrid;

  • Candidate must reside in Atlanta, GA, or the Washington, DC Metro area;

  • For candidates based in Atlanta, GA, this role will be hybrid, combining both remote and in-office work at our headquarters office in Decatur, GA;

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Approximately 10%-20%

SALARY RANGE:

  • $72,000 - $83,000
