SENIOR COST ACCOUNTANT - Private Equity Backed Company in Decatur

My client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Cost Accountant to oversee all aspects of cost accounting, including job costing. The ideal candidate will collect and analyze complex financial information related to the organization’s cost expenses, improve the accuracy of actuals, budgets, and forecasts, and work to decrease the cost of departments and projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze expenses and cost transactions, ensuring accurate recording and assignment to appropriate projects and departments.

  • Collaborate with the Senior Revenue Accountant to align COGS expenses with Revenue Recognition at the project level.

  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Conduct job costing analysis to ensure profitability and identify areas for improvement.

  • Post monthly Warranty Expense journal entries and monitor the Warranty Expense Account.

  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management.

  • Prepare detailed financial analyses and reports on expenses, including breakdowns of project costs and forecasts.

  • Monitor inventory levels and reconcile discrepancies; assist with quarterly inventory audits.

  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor purchase orders and maintain monthly reconciliations of Inventory Received Not Billed.

  • Prepare periodic cost reconciliation reports, tracking data such as changing labor and supply costs.

  • Work closely with procurement and production to gather cost-related data and insights.

  • Assist the Controller with period-end close procedures, including performing COGS account reconciliations and recording various journal entries.

  • Assist with external audit requests.

  • Maintain COGS fixed assets subledger, including monitoring asset additions, disposals, and transfers.

  • Collaborate with Operations and Sales teams to maximize the effectiveness of NetSuite ERP through process changes and ad-hoc reporting.

  • Assist with special projects as assigned.

  • Train and mentor junior accounting staff.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration or Financial Accounting; Masters degree preferred.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or the ability to qualify is preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting and analysis experience, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for interaction with financial and non-financial management.

  • Superb attention to detail, strong planning and organization skills, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • Self-starter with a business focus and entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills (ability to create basic PivotTables) and manipulate large data sets (VLOOKUP and INDEX-MATCH).

  • Experience with ERP systems (Oracle NetSuite, JD Edwards, etc.) is required.

  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work well with teams that affect cost expenses.

  • Customer-service centric with a focus on quality and deadlines.

  • Innovative mindset to help identify ways to improve processes and efficiency during rapid growth and technology change.
