Instrumental Music Education Paraprofessional

Job Description

Purpose: The Instrumental Music Paraprofessional assists the instrumental music

staff in creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal,

social, and intellectual development of students as well as maintaining

the level of organization needed for staff and student to be successful.

Responsible to: Principal and Instrumental Music Staff

Salary: Instructional Support Hourly Rate Schedule, Level 1

Classification of Employment: Non-Exempt

Date: July 2019

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Desire to continue career improvement.

3. Valid Kansas drivers license.

Essential Functions:

1. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

a. Assist in facilitating the personal, social and intellectual development of

students.

b. Assist in establishing a positive learning environment and respond to the

individual needs of students.

c. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district, cooperative,

boosters and community.

d. React to change productively and handle other tasks assigned.

e. Appropriately organize, maintain, and operate all classroom equipment.

f. Support the value of education.

g. Support the philosophy and mission of the cooperative and school district.

h. Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.

2. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

a. Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.

b. Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push

heavy objects or materials.

c. Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend, and reach.

d. Requires the ability to travel.

e. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors depending on the season.

f. Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.

g. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

General Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the supervision of students.

2. Observe, record, and report student behavior.

3. Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.

4. Support high expectations for student achievement and behavior.

5. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.

6. Escort/transport students to and from various school facilities and areas.

7. Assist in record keeping.

8. Take attendance and record absences.

9. Help prepare instructional and performance materials for use.

10. Assist in the maintenance and inventory of the music library and materials.

11. Work effectively with students, teachers, parents, community agencies, and other

groups.

12. Assist in safeguarding confidential information.

13. Immediately report accidents, assaults, destruction of property, and abusive behavior

to instructor or administration.

14. See district policies are observed during all activities.

15. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.

16. Other duties as assigned by the principal, which are consistent with the general

requirements and qualifications of the position.
