Job Description Summary

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, monitoring, configuration, installation, maintenance, backup, restoration, and troubleshooting of all physical and virtual systems assigned to their team. Additionally, this position will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for these systems. This role is critical in ensuring the health, performance, and security of all systems within our datacenters.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Executes the overall strategic information plan as outlined by the Senior Manager Infrastructure Systems.

  • Provide training and mentorship to junior team members, fostering growth and technical expertise.

  • Lead the design and implementation of system infrastructure to meet organizational goals and support healthcare operations.

  • Configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot all systems in datacenters, including but not limited to physical servers, storage solutions, network switches, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), load balancers, virtual servers, and hypervisors.

  • Configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot all operating systems, including but not limited to: All versions of Microsoft Windows Server, Linux Distributions (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS), and Apple macOS’s.

  • Configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot key applications and platforms, including Microsoft Office 365, Imprivata (SSO and Authentication), CrowdStrike Endpoint Protection.

  • Configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot datacenter networking systems to ensure reliable connectivity to assigned systems.

  • Configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot Active Directory, and Exchange Database Availability groups.

  • Develop, configure, maintain, and test a successful robust backup and recovery plan to ensure minimal downtime and data integrity.

  • Implement and maintain robust security measures to protect patient data and hospital systems from cyber threats.

  • Monitor system health, performance, and uptime using tools like SolarWinds Orion.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure systems meet performance, security, compliance standards and ensure their seamless integration.

  • Create and maintain scripts (e.g., PowerShell) to automate tasks and improve efficiency.

  • Ensure correct licensing, support, and maintenance are purchased annually.

  • Works outside normal business hours, when required.

  • Limited overnight travel.

  • Performs other duties as requested by primary manager that do not compromise moral code of conduct or protocols set in place for patient or employee safety

Qualifications

Minimum Education Required

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

  • One (1) industry recognized certification from VMware, Cisco, CompTIA, Microsoft, AWS, or Linux.

Minimum Education Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or other technology related area.

  • One (1) or more of the following industry recognized certifications. Microsoft Hybrid Administrator Expert, VMWare VCP, Veeam Certified Engineer VMCE, CompTIA CASP, Cisco CCNA

Minimum Experience Required

  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in information technology.

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in datacenter operations.

Minimum Experience Preferred

  • Twelve (12) years’ experience in the information technology field

  • Experience at a large institution supporting over 2k employees.

Required Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • Maintain current, certifications attained

  • Valid state issued driver’s license

  • Ability to operate company owned vehicles for department and organizational needs and must meet the following age requirement:

    1. If transporting more than just self in the vehicle – must be at least twenty-five (25) years old,
    1. If transporting ONLY self in vehicle – must be at least twenty-one (21) years old.
  • Complies with the state and federal traffic rules and regulations; observing safe driving techniques.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Windows and Linux Server operating systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of VMware virtualization technology.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Active Directory, Group Policy, and Exchange.

  • Advanced knowledge of Office 365, Teams, SharePoint administration.

  • Advanced knowledge of datacenter Storage technologies (SAN, NFS, iSCSI, NAS)

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networking in a multi-VLAN environment.

  • Knowledge of MS SQL maintenance and setup

  • Experience with network and systems security processes and technology

  • Experience with datacenter power and cooling systems

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Exceptional customer service skills.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to operate in a fast paced and stressful environment.

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices.
